Also, if we figured out how to use wormholes. I mean that would potentially be pretty super.

lol - if we can't live together peacefully on this planet, then a wormhole will only help in disseminating across space our cultural inadequacies.

I think understanding space, physics, and all the other mysteries of the universe are the key to proving whether a god, or god like being, actually exists.

I hope it happens soon, because religion seems to be the basis of a lot of unnecessary conflict.

There will be new love from the ashes of us.

The blind ego of humanity leads us to think that in a 1,000 years humans will still be the most sophisticated form of life on Earth and that it all rides on us.

yep.

what makes you guys think we'll survive another 1000 years? unless we (our species) get our shit together, we're not gonna last that long.

I can't view that article from this computer, but I sure hope he said something a little more substantial than that. Is there anyone who hasn't already come to the same conclusion (aside from babies)?

It's pretty obvious that Hawking just needs to get laid and maybe blaze some icky (aka torch a bone)

I doubt he's in any condition to do so..

To keep it real and analog, I'm gonna start posting to WATMM by writing my posts in fountain pen on hemp paper, putting them in bottles, and throwing them into the ocean.

Basically this quote from Wiki...

"Anatomically modern humans evolved from archaic Homo sapiens in the Middle Paleolithic, about 200,000 years ago."

I have my doubts about our civilizations - as we know them - surviving to the year 3000. Climate change is going to put some serious fucking dampers on our ability to thrive if we don't curb it soon. And as a species, we're not curbing it at all. It'll be interesting to see if we can engineer our way out of it, but the world - according to the scientists and books I pay attention to anyway - will be a really different place a millenium from now. I hope we're still around, but I don't think Earth is going to be quite so nice as it is now... which is why I echoed Deer's "no shit, Dr Hawking" comment earlier

Did you just yolo Stephen Hawking?

wow, beautiful quote. it's very true.

But that's true for the entire human history since the times we learned to create fire, right? People have been consistently better in science than in spirituality.

MLK was pretty good at romantic rhetorics, I guess.

Well that's exactly the point goDel. I don't know what is the purpose of your last sentence though, other than trolling. Unfortunately, we're pretty late to recognize that fact. Furthermore, MLK had to be assassinated just to further postpone such developments.

yes, twice.

Well duh...

But where does he purpose we go and how?

The universe is just a broader scope, a frontier like all others to be owned and nested by humans. It is like leveling up in an RPG game. Getting to level 10 (continent to continent) is easier than getting to level 20 (planet to planet) ...ad infinitum.

I still don't think seeking sanctuary in an off-world environment is the best way to go. That would be like crapping too much in one toilet and flooding it and then going to another vacant one and doing the same to that one over the course of time. Why not use a plunger?

Why can't we just remain here and fix the crap that we started?

A new life awaits you in the off-world colonies. The chance to begin again in a golden land of opportunity and adventure.

Kinda like the Sierra Madre
