at my wedding we played:

guest seating: la dilettante by Hauschka

flower kids procession - the imperial march (from star wars)

signing of the book thing- flim - bad plus

resessional - zissou society blue star cadets (ned's theme) - mark mothersbaugh

cheesy tunes that you sing all night to

When you're not in the mood, a bunch of people singing cheesy tunes and jumping about like "omg we're so weird and crazy!!!" is the most annoying thing possible.

im getting married to techno, and everyone can fucking bite it. if anyone thinks im doing something as awesome as getting married while listening to 90's pop, or fucking disco then il just live my life single. and alone. and in misery.

I think you all love cheesy tunes that you sing all night to, I think you just say "I ONLY WANT IDM" to impress other watmmers.

Also, a night of IDM would be so boring in a room (lets face it its not going to be some cool dark club) filled with kids running round screaming and old people showing off moved from the 'jive' era.

I don't think it's about hiding the like of mainstream pop hits. It's more about thinking it's shithouse and feeling physically ill when having to be exposed to it for any length of time, which would make for a fucked wedding which actually is supposed to be a special time for the two of you. Pretty simple really.

Of course i agree with the compromise thing. But only to appease your partner, not a bunch of hicks that you will only have to deal with in that one day, before you whisk her away. heh. But yeah, maybe play the more accessable stuff, from every genre that isn't shit.

i am not associating one of the most significant days of my life with a soundtrack of utter shite just because its what people of the previous generation expect at a wedding basically. im also unlikely to get married for about 10 years so we will see how i feel when ive mellowed out a bit and im not a jumped up wee techno dickhead.

Im not saying you have to listen to shit pop, theres loads of great pop music, what Im saying is IDM isnt music that you can have a good dance or laugh to in a country club/hotel room/upstairs at a pub. I didnt say techno that can be good, because it gets people moving and happy but its good to have that stuff mixed in.

Like I said we had footwork, jungle, grime, garage but it was mixed in with some 'wedding style' classics, this is an evening of light entertainment and fun, you will feel pretty damn tired from the ceremony (nerves etc) so you just want to relax and joy.
