Washed Out - Paracosm

Sounds too much like Beach House in my opinion. I liked the style of his earlier stuff better.

There will be new love from the ashes of us.

Within and Without is still one of my most played vinyls for some reason... appropriate in many situations I suppose. Will definitely check this new one out when it drops... open to a sound evolution but he'd be crazy to drop his earlier style altogether.

Sub Pop is really into the whole bonus 7" thing with Washed Out - I got the clear one with Within and Without. Pretty limited I believe..

Bleep could seriously learn something from those guys.

How's the 7" sound?

The track at 25:30 is really good

Yeah that one is pretty nice.

Has a very lush sound evoking exotica and well-made retro mood_music. I've always loved that aesthetic and he really nails that sound with this album.

really liking this!

doesn't sound as somber as within & without (which was a great album) and is miles away from the 1st EP in terms of production style, but still a perfect album for relaxing in the sunshine

I guess it's safe to say at this point that he's moved away from the hazy '80s hip-hop influenced lo-fi of his earlier sound and won't be coming back again...

first impression of the new record is that its a little too polished. I like the idea of him making records in his bedroom. but this sounds like a studio record. not sure why that bothers me.

Usually too polished is another way of saying lacks personality.

Seeing him this weekend in Houston. Really curious what the live show will be like.

I've really enjoyed this album, I agree it's not as immediate but it's quite solid. All of the hi-fi and added production still very much fits his style. It's just as good as his other releases, and I play them all fairly regularly in the car or at home. This one just seemed more background music/downtempo than the others. The kind of pleasant LP you throw on when you're puttering around your apartment or house.

I have on tiny gripe -

Maybe it was an Exai/Tomorrow's Harvest mania but I didn't follow up on this. A real shame because it's a great record. You can lob quite a few trope barbs at it since it makes use of so many pop tools. Be that as it may, it's nearly impossible to be unhappy while it plays. Beach Boys and the Beatles on ketamine--how can WATMM resist?
