will Richard's next album be musically thematic?

Recommended Posts

Looking back on releases like RDJ album with its bright sounds and childlike melodies (I believe Richard said he was in love at the time of recording), the mellow sounds of the SAW series, or the darkness of Come to Daddy, do you think his next album will be consistent in tone, or just a collection of tracks he's pulled from his (hopefully recent) library?

Look where he is now; in his 40s, divorced, a father, a millionaire, label owner and somewhat of a hermit. Will that be reflected in his tracks? I'd like to hear a sense of maturity in his future, ala BOC who are obviously at a different point in their lives than 2005. Of course, no one likes to fuck with their fans as much as Aphex, so who knows. He says he has all of these completed albums, but which one will he release?

Do you think he's putting pressure on himself to live up to the legacy he's created? I love the breakbeats on Rushup, and the acid of Analord but he's almost always about moving forward, so we all expect great things from him. Don't forget he's only human, and fallible just like the rest of us.

I'm sure we'll like anything new he does, but damn he's falling behind the rest of his label roster. When even BOC comes out of hiding, you know it's time to get in gear! Lol

No?

"They're about guns, lasers, robots with laser guns in space. Monsters from the future. Explosions. Sylvester Stallone doing a backflip on top of a spike while Robocop carries a ghost up a mountain. Bombs and swords and that... IDM is awesome."

You can shit on Isness, but the Abbey Road version of Galaxial Pharmaceutical is my fav FSOL track of all time, so there!

no that would be stupid

he's never releasing anything again, at least not under aphex twin. i would be extremely surprised if he did

Most probably. I wonder what direction it will be, though. Some might disagree, but I really liked the diversity of drugqs. We've seen a lot of evolution in the piano pieces, so I hope to hear more of that.

Other than that, I'd like to remain without knowledge of what is coming. I'd be really happy if it was suddenly there: no anticipation, no vague viral marketing, just a site, with a note, saying :"innit m8, here's some music i've been producing. Hope you dig."

couldnt agree more.

... although i'd also be entertained by some kind of viral/guerilla stunt if he ended up doing that.. not sure if he would these days, esp. but imagine like a 6 month long viral scavenger hunt marketing stunt.. or something crazy. something to drive us afx fans NUTS. and then like the release comes and it's 1 or two tracks or something.. lol. no way. if that happened, he would have to drop a full length or at least a music-packed ep. God, it gets me giddy to even fantasize about the next rdj release lolol.

how sad r we?

we're like that pathetic stalker in high school who goes home every night imagining what it'd be like if our crush would even say a single word to us...

awww poor us

I'm probably one of the only ones here that would be most excited if he did an album version of his remote controlled orchestra. Even if it was just on CD I would buy that shit in a second

Can you imagine what the Blerp clusterbang is going to be like when it goes up for preorder?

If they're smart, they'll outsource to Norman Records!

The style of the 3 x M tracks, surely..... i mean we know they're a step up from Drukqs->Analord->Tuss

(3 x M = Minehead, Manchester, Metz)

(speculation)

I agree. I think it'll be another big release like analord or the double disk drukqs. It will have the new amalgamation style he seems to have gotten on to with the 3 M tracks me thinks (tussy synths and basses, SAW pads/flutes, analord squelching/sequencing ect.). Its the closest I have heard to electronic music being 'orchestral', the metz track in particular.... don't quite know how else to put it.

I am glad he's taking his time. It's his music and I'm sure whatever comes out will be lush, I just hope one day I get to hear it on a good system or thru my headphones while burning one down.

That is all.

Richard told me that he's dead since 2010, so I guess there'll be no more RDJ for the people...

Guys I started cutting until the next Aphex Twin album is released. This is a movement I started in order to pressure Mr. James into releasing a new album. If you would like to join me start cutting and posting your pictures around the internet. #cuttingforaphex on twitter.
