Yeah it's a bit of a pain but you're nearly there. The URL you'd paste here would be

It looks like I can only embed the album which defaults to the first track. What if I want to embed a certain track from the album? For example, I want to post Sync or Swim (track 4). Bandcamp gives album=3331732813 for that track too and when I paste the URL (obviously) I get just an embedded player for the first track of the album.

You need to add /t=n/ (where n - track number) to what you already have. My example

Yeah I think things got broken a while back, tried embedding something a few weeks ago but just got a blank square.

In the super big forum update I've got the feeling it'll be much easier to embed without my funky code workaround above

I see. This never-ending forum update thing is taking on Duke Nukem forever proportions  , just release the fucker already and tweak on the go.  

I imagine with a forum database this huuuuuuuuuuuuuugggeeee Joyrex is just making 100% sure the whole thing is stable before making the switch to ensure the whole place doesn't come crashing down. Database upgrades/migrations are (well for an inexperienced person like me) like playing a game of jenga on top of a very high scaffolding with a strong breeze ...

The thing slowing down the forum upgrade is unfortunately me - I have the dev environment set up, but there's a configuration error I haven't had time to sort out yet. I really want to get the forum upgraded so everyone can complain about how much better this version was, etc.

I think Bandcamp might have changed their player; I'll see about fixing that today if possible.

Okay, the long and the short of it is this:

Because Bandcamp does not expose the album/track ID (not the name) in the URL, there is no easy way to have a paste the URL into the forum and have it translate to an embedded player.

There is an addon that accomplishes this with a PHP script (and still requires you to copy the WordPress embed BBCode versus just a URL), and it's for this version of the forum - since we will be updating soon, the new forum uses oEmbed for stuff like this, but Bandcamp currently does not support the oEmbed standard. There's really no point installing an addon we'll only use for a short time and then it breaks again.

So, unless an enterprising PHP developer can write an addon for the new forum software (that accomplishes what the PHP script did for this version, but using the updated API for the new forum software), Bandcamp embeds will probably not work well.
