Which version of Coolediit is the version to get? Sounds really good

Probably the very last version before it became Audition, so that'd make it (I think) Cool Edit Pro 2.1

Actually it raises a very good point, maybe I should just try a different build of it.

I haven't eaten a Wagon Wheel since 07/11/07... ilovecubus.co.uk - 25ml of mp3 taken twice daily.

i think everything up until Adobe Audition 3.0 is pretty fine. The nice thing about the early iterations of Audition is that they kept all the original cooledit stuff but also added the ability to lasso or square select on the spectrum to add only effects to those parts. They also added the ability to process with VSts which i don't think Cooledit 2.0 has. I might be wrong though, it could be Adobe Audition 1.5 or 2.0 that's the last really powerful one. After that they started removing the weirder and more configurable processes.

My memory's a little fuzzy on this but I seem to remember that Audacity could open .exe files and play them as audio. Or something.

edit: it's very possible I dreamt that but give it a shot if you have it.

Thanks for the tip, definitely works :)

I imported the audacitiy.exe file into audacity lol. Good way to generate random wav data

I still use cooledit as my main tool for all my music. You should stick with it if you've been using it for 15 years. Just grab whatever cooledit pro 2.x is out there

Ha, yeah that's exactly how I discovered it.

Hmm tried various versions and none would remain registered on Windows 8 - even when running them in compatibility mode. I've ended up with Adobe Audition 1.5 and it works an absolute bloody charm. Everything is in the same place and looks identical to Cool Edit but - works !

soundforge is pretty top tier. People were doing pretty ambitious things with it back in the day (and still are if you believe Burial). I think even Infected Mushroom at one time said they made all their kick drums in the tone generator section of Soundforge (which is superior to Cooledit's generate tone feature)
