WATMM Identity, As Perceived From The Outside Looking In

Recommended Posts

i've seen fleeting postings here on the watmm; sharing the opinions of random people, as well as established artists and more prominent figures in the music community regarding the watmm. i'm curious, what have u heard? what do your friends think? do u talk about watmm with friends or is it a secret activity only for u.

i'm also curious to start up a discussion about what the eventual greater vision is for watmm. i'm always hoping for this forum to take flight; not that i don't enjoy it the way it is, but i do feel it has incredible potential if given just a slightly more powerful push.

anyway...

WATMM is great for those of us who aren't blessed enough to either be in England or some cultural hub like LA or New York. You are able to take part in an environment where people share your interests and musical tastes that you otherwise would not have been able to. You can get advice and learn more about producing your own music by using YLC or even better, CHATMM. It also gives a bit more social exposure to those of us who do not spend a lot of time around other people. We get to talk about and share things we might not have because of the element of anonymity. I've shown most of my friends WATMM, but none of them use it as often as I do. I could see the potential for this site being anything from a Pitchfork level of popularity source for music news and events- granted, it would need much more structure and professionally created content;to a place for people to not only host and sell their music, but also be able to have direct conversations with their fans. Personally, I think every website should have a forum attached to it these days.

There will be new love from the ashes of us.

I almost always post on WATMM. I almost never post on Facebook.

To keep it real and analog, I'm gonna start posting to WATMM by writing my posts in fountain pen on hemp paper, putting them in bottles, and throwing them into the ocean.

you have to watch those silent people, always trying to trick you with their silence

Watmm has become an integral part of my life. I reference it to others irl. I learn about amazing new music. New films. New and old information about the world that I would have missed otherwise, stuff that interests me. I meet people that are almost or more crazy than myself, which makes my life more interesting. I identify with a lot of people on here whereas I do not in real life. I have real life friends guys but this place has also allowed me to meet many people that I can relate to. I think the vision is clear and staying on track with us celebrating great music and art in general should continue and it will always be known as one of the more tasteful and interesting places to ever exist on the internet.

I love this site so much more than Facebook, too many differing personalities on fb....messageboards make it easier to put yourself in an already established group of people that have like minds. It is a better idea than fb in many ways. There are already too many people on this earth, making it harder to find persons to connect with, fb just adds to that confusion unless you segregate yourself in to group discussion on there but I never feel like the discussions gel as well as on here.

Maybe I should try out twitter. *has fear shakes*

I like it. I occasionally mention it outside of internet but not to great depth. Most people don't have the depth of thought that I does.

I never tell anyone about watmm. It's my dirty secrete.

Some songs I made with my fingers and electronics. In the process of making some more. Hopefully.

I don't tell any of my friends about posting on here. It's not that I'm embarrassed about it, they just don't like me having other friends.

My friends generally do not really understand my musical tastes, so watmm is rarely referenced irl. My wife knows it as "that music forum with the weird taxidermy thread".

I couldn't really give a damn about what people outside of watmm think of watmm; if members generally perceive it as being a positive experience then its job done, yeah?

But I can see that management / mods would also want watmm to be positively viewed outside of membership in order to spread acceptance, stature and ultimately bring in new members (and revenue....)

I dont really talk about WATMM outside of WATMM but if i found something on here and I want to tell someone in real life about it, i usually refer WATMM as "this music forum i go on." If the person is actually into music as much as i am, i'll tell them about WATMM

One day marriages will happen over watmm. Bonds will be broken. Underdogs will get a shot at redemption. Heroes will rise, villains will fall, etc. etc. IDM, etc.

same.. my girlfriend and a few of my friends know about it from me, and ill often show them funny posts and stuff. my gal also knows of it as "that music forum im part of" haha High Five Danny! lol but yeah, it's funny cuz she likes what I've read her and she's seen some of ya'll's avatars, and have had a laugh...

We were actually out having a burger and a beer together (at a really lush gourmet burger spot btw- which ill have to post some pics of in the burger forum), and i was ranting to her about the career/life of a songwriter/producer and how they are often undervalued and how the "musician" is more of a familiar term for people and how I think that should change and I was going on and on and she was like... yeah, mmhmm, yeah, and the beer kicked in and i couldnt stop talking about it and she looked at me, and went...

"you should totally make a thread about this on that music forum you talk about!"

i smiled and loled and here i am now, telling ya'll about it.

here's to existential watmm moments (:
