There's no shame in expressing interest in music and culture from other continents. Although WATMM's demographic is predominantly Western, that doesn't mean we have to confine our interests to only Europe and North America.

I've sometimes chuckled at how geographically small area the featured artists are from. When will we see even a non-British featured artist?

Good question. I understand there was once an attempt to feature a Canadian artist, but then he demanded that he not be associated with WATMM in any way.

To keep it real and analog, I'm gonna start posting to WATMM by writing my posts in fountain pen on hemp paper, putting them in bottles, and throwing them into the ocean.

why the fuck is this a thread? lol

Well it spawned two threads on genban. One about this thread, and the second about that thread. So it's part of some kind of progression to something or other. If it offends you i'll close it tomorrow or something. Hopefully the other two don't collapse as a result. /my guess was that they'd just run out of steam anyway, once the users came down off their saturday night/sunday morning highs. 'wow man, a thread about a thread about a thread about a series of threads'.

Everyone reading this dumbshit thread should do yourself a favor and check out this compilation.

Learn to count in Swahili/Malagasy and some other phrases. You well get ripped off less if you can count.

Travelled to Tanzania, Botswana, Zimbabwe, and teeny weeny bit of South Africa (more driving than anything else, to get to Botswana). I had an excellent time. As I usually do.

Always wanted to go to Namibia. And I'd like to go to Ghana as any people I've met from there in the UK are the most wonderful friendly people. Imagine a whole country of them? Delightful

Haven't got a clue about the music I'm afraid, apart from the usual stuff you see on tv..

I'm back from Madagascar. It's hard to compress the experience in a few words, but it was at the same time absolutely amazing, surreal, weird, frustrating, mind blowing, depressing and heart warming trip from the minute the plane landed at Ivato airport to the minute it took off three weeks later. I've never met friendlier people and the landscape is surreal.

In short I started at Antananarivo, then traveled around the hauts-plateaux and côte est with taxi brousse and a train (a 160km journey took over 10 hours) without any particular plan going back to Tana for the flight back. The problem was just that three weeks was too short a time. I need to get back there sometime.

Well its prob because the Best idm artists just happen to be from Britain.

lol @ this thread

You really shouldnt be looking to Africa for good electronic music. Any other continent is better at it in my experience.

Since I last posted itt I've been  also to South Africa, Namibia, Botswana, Zambia,  Zimbabwe, Malawi and Tanzania. I've been missing Africa a lot while being stuck in Finland during the pandemic.

When it comes to what music gets played in the public spaces IMO Namibia has been the best place so far. Techno, house and gqom in the taxis and minibuses all day long.

Never been to Namibia actually, I was more specifically talking about SA, other than that I have never come across any noteworthy African electronic music. Defo need to explore my continent more when it comes to that

From next month on international travel from and to SA will be possible again, albeit with a few restrictions. So you can come over again lol (I dont know if its allowed from finland though)

Maybe if I can't go to mainland Africa I can go to some of the islands like Reunion which is technically in EU. Hope to escape the Finnish winter at least for a while.

SA is opening up to countries with reasonable covid statuses so if Finland is ons of these countries you could come here atleast. Guess it depends om where you want to go. Don't know about the other countries since they all have their own regulations of course.

I'd love to experience a white christmas, actually lol. (Its summer in december here)

I'd like some more threads on African music please. Been really enjoying some MC Yallah, who I think is from Kenya with Eomac.
