What is the most recent interview Richard has given?

Recommended Posts

The last one i've read was the spanish one where he says he is waiting for the divorced to finalize so he can release 6 albums.

There was a more recent one that a few people missed because it didn't have it's own thread, could have been polish or french - someone on here translated it.

Basically when asked about The Tuss, he called it an experiment, then went on to say that he was joking about the divorce thing, claimed he never married.

It amazes me how many people missed it and still wonder whether he's The Tuss or not, and the divorce thing is constantly brought up on here still, can someone find/remember where it was posted?

so there really is no reason he hasn't released anything lately..

no. the reason is because he's taken up the fine, age-old art of liquor distillation. he'll be coming out with his own brand soon. he's calling it 'aphex gin'. i heard this from squarepusher.

if he really did that I'll have to return my aphex fan-boy card. There isn't much that i can think of that's more depressing than an aging formerly very productive artist resorting to releasing their own brand of alcohol.

how about if he started his own night club and called it Gaysex Den?

OR

what if he started doing lots of coke and went around referring to himself in 3rd person as 'The Aphex Twin'

the aphex twin says spread those legs baybee!

the aphex twin says make me some eggy toast!

the aphex twin don't like the way you're lookin at him, buddy!

somethin on your mind, pal? this aphex twin would like ta know.

what if he released his own clothing line and called it 'aphex slim'

(i bet he's somewhere picking his nose, right now)

Does he have to have a reason? Speculation leads to frustration in my experience.

There will be new love from the ashes of us.

The frustration was already there. The speculation is only the byproduct of it. Or rather, the consequence of not having a story behind the roots of said frustration(s).

You would think that these magazines and websites would try to put out more press for the fact that they have an aphex twin interview.

Why? Is Aphex Twin commercially interesting in any way?

this was posted 3 days ago. it's from when RDJ album came out, i've never read it before though. he talks about playing his music at the wrong speed and lying in interviews. nothing else of note really

Can someone hack the Aphex Twin forum, or every Aphex Twin forum on the net and replace every post with 'Richard D James release an album you lazy fucking cunt', i know it's not subtle, but I think it'd be more effective motivation if he did indeed did stumble onto a forum once every 37 months of his existence.

I think he's wired wrong in the head, there is a disconnect for him between 'making music i like' and 'releasing music for people who like it', he's humble enough to acknowledge how surreal it is 100 thousand people would buy an Aphex Twin album of his yet doesn't feel honoured to release another for them. As positions in the world go, that's like being at the very top. If being an artist is a privilege, he shits all over it, he's not being subversive, but sulky. Essentially it boils down to him being too sensitive to his most cherished music being copied and ruined for him and no longer personal and his, which is fair enough. He doesn't seem to even value the album as an art form though, as something to make a statement with. I don't get the fan entitlement angle...it's not that, if you do art, and it's great, and people like it, you're obliged to share it, in my opinion, just because you're so lucky it's wrong not to. A fuckton of talented people either aren't allowed to, aren't able to, or struggle to reach a place where they can flourish. Aphex Twin was right there, and doesn't want it. It came so early, and so apparently easily i don't think he appreciated it.

It is odd he can go from being just a guy who makes music to amuse himself to almost being owned by his fans and things expected of him, but he created that, got lucky, and -heh lets just make an assumption- but i think it's been so long that he's forgotten how fortunate he is to be in a position where he can release whatever album he wants and make a living from it. There's very very few people on the planet able to do exactly what they want and make a living from it. It's not a curse.

You should bake a cake and end up with it on his doorstep. Ring the bell. And when he opens the door, shove it in his face. Happy Come to daddy day, mother fucker! How do you like your mashed potatoes?

But it's not mashed pototatoes, it's cake.

Well unless he made the cake out of mashed potatoes. You never know, stranger things have happened. Probably not as frequently happened as richard has released music surreptitiously over these past few years though. So why worry about the fact that he hasn't relased anything, as he has.

my dad used to make 'cakes' out of mashed potatoes, by like frying patties made out of them on a skillet. it was good shit sorta. i cant ever make them right if i try

he's stated since the beginning the only reason he does interviews or releases music or produce/mix/etc is to have enough money to lock himself in the studio to make music. there's nothing wrong with what he's doing or not doing, he's doing his will like everybody should. he doesnt owe consumers anything.

he's releasing free records, and on bandcamp and giving exposure to other less known artists, spinning live, swinging pianos, what more should he do? theres no reason he should hawk his soul to mass media conglomerates at this point. there's plenty of hapless new 'artists' doing that already.

I don't understand guys like RDJ. But I mean if he's really working on some music to make it as kickass as possible and not seem like a weak effort from an artist past his prime, then I support that 100%. Based on the Metz and Manchester tracks the dude hasn't lost a step. In fact, he's gained many lush steps. He's secretly kicking ass in his studio. What I don't understand is this bizarre point of view that sending a few WAV files to Warp with a couple clicks of the mouse is somehow soul destroying and horrible to your delicate artistic mind.

He has nothing to worry about there. He's the boss, Warp would eat out of his hand for fucks sake.
