goDel
Even if he is past his prime, why not release stuff from those incredibly big vaults filled with tunes from earlier times? From his prime and before. Just shove that piece of potato pie in his face and hand him some sandpaper to whipe his face clean afterwards. Record it all on video, and let him use the footage in his gigs. Ivan Ooze
On 8/17/2013 at 4:00 AM, Suffocate Peon said: Can someone hack the Aphex Twin forum, or every Aphex Twin forum on the net and replace every post with 'Richard D James release an album you lazy fucking cunt', i know it's not subtle, but I think it'd be more effective motivation if he did indeed did stumble onto a forum once every 37 months of his existence. I think he's wired wrong in the head, there is a disconnect for him between 'making music i like' and 'releasing music for people who like it', he's humble enough to acknowledge how surreal it is 100 thousand people would buy an Aphex Twin album of his yet doesn't feel honoured to release another for them. As positions in the world go, that's like being at the very top. If being an artist is a privilege, he shits all over it, he's not being subversive, but sulky. Essentially it boils down to him being too sensitive to his most cherished music being copied and ruined for him and no longer personal and his, which is fair enough. He doesn't seem to even value the album as an art form though, as something to make a statement with. I don't get the fan entitlement angle...it's not that, if you do art, and it's great, and people like it, you're obliged to share it, in my opinion, just because you're so lucky it's wrong not to. A fuckton of talented people either aren't allowed to, aren't able to, or struggle to reach a place where they can flourish. Aphex Twin was right there, and doesn't want it. It came so early, and so apparently easily i don't think he appreciated it. It is odd he can go from being just a guy who makes music to amuse himself to almost being owned by his fans and things expected of him, but he created that, got lucky, and -heh lets just make an assumption- but i think it's been so long that he's forgotten how fortunate he is to be in a position where he can release whatever album he wants and make a living from it. There's very very few people on the planet able to do exactly what they want and make a living from it. It's not a curse. I don't agree, what do we really know about him? nothing Its so wrong to think he doesn't care about his fans or art, else we never would have had an album like drukqs I'm sure if he would release a new album it will be a masterpiece, i'd rather have that then him release 8 mediocre albums Thanks Haha Confused Sad Facepalm Burger Farnsworth Big Brain Like × Quote Hide Ivan Ooze's signature Hide all signatures On 2/26/2015 at 9:39 AM, RupturedSouls said: This drugs makes me feel like I'm on song! An artist with the talent he has would simply move on to something else if they genuinely felt this way. If the world of 'braindance' has been ruined by imitators for him, then he should do something in the realm of the remote controlled orchestra or ambient/musique concrete' stuff he claims he still makes. Guest Jonah
how depressing would it be if your fans suck. srklx, d-mouse and this forum.... i mean fuck at least outkast wants to work with squarepusher. if you want new, better music go make it. job done. timewasting speculation: a lot of musicians, especially self taught, appear less productive with unlimited means. i could amuse myself for the rest of my life playing with all the different software I have, but never make much that feels finished. have to setup stupid tricks to get anything done. getting stuff done is boring. playing live is fun. trying new things is fun. analord seems like a fun concept album and challenge, a stimulating way to keep focused. wasn't the drill n bass stuff a friendly competition? again, stimulating, fun. a lot of the back catalog is like "i bet i can do this better than you" reasonably successful? anyway, we have tons of good tracks, who cares if it takes 20, 30 years or never. johnny cash had a long ass period of ZZZZZ before kicking off with some stunners. in 50 years we'll see an album by richard d james called aphex twin. brilliant piano covers of all the shit copies, but who wants to listen to the copies...
