remember the name

I was really amused by Lil B circa 2010/2011 after I listened to the MF Based mixtape. None of it was actually good, but it was funny and interesting and honestly reminded me of stuff I used to do when I was in high school. Although he has made some highly ridiculous stuff, he does occasionally put out some actual good tracks, namely Wonton Soup, Trapped in Prison, Baby Baby, and Based for Your Face.

I rarely try to make any kind of music these days, but when I see all the energy he puts into making what he makes and the fanbase he has behind it, believe it or not, I am inspired to work on my own creative endeavors. It just shows that you can succeed if you try hard enough, no matter what you're doing. It's a good lesson to learn, one that I continue to struggle with in my daily life.

I am with flim. LIL B's output, attitude and his relentless dedication to online presence has influenced me as well.

When it comes to Lil B, it seems to me that he wants nothing more than to have a fanbase and have people pay attention to him. That's exactly what he has. He may be largely a joke, but it's a joke that's lasted for a long-ass time. People actually listen to his music and make memes for him. All of this "Thank you Based God" stuff, the kids quoting him in their yearbook photos, the #rare hashtag... He's successful in his own way. He isn't seeking riches and mainstream fame; I have a feeling that he knows that's out of his reach, but what he does have is a legion of teenagers who are actually entertained by him and await his next ridiculous track with glee. That's success.

What I get inspired by is the fact that he did find a sizeable group of people who actually like what he's doing. He may not be taken seriously in the rap world, but the people who do take him seriously are allowing him to continue to make 18 mixtapes a year and make money playing shows. He doesn't even have a record deal. If you apply his persistence to whatever you do, whether it be writing, drawing, making music, photography... you're bound to find someone who truly believes in you because you believed in yourself. That sounds stupid and sappy, but damn, I think if someone as crappy as Lil B can do it, why can't I?

Big KRIT is pretty damn awesome. He's a self-made dude and is definitely worth paying attention to. His Return of 4Eva is a classic.

Just the sheer magnitude of a five hour mix tape, still haven't endured the whole thing in one sitting,

Marveling in the hours of nonsense and psychedelic lyrical slang, he's on point for sure.

Really a product of the Bay Area too, he is loved, rejoiced and admired by everyone down there.

I liked TOPO more than Ultimate Bitch (his last one before this). TOPO seems to have an entire "conscious" album hidden within it (like "Take this Trip" below). and THATS my fav aspect. something about his voice is a little different tho. but knowing B, all of those songs where his voice sounds a little different could have been recorded in 2 days
