Nah, you're a wee child who can't wait for official release. Embarrassing. Shove your privilege.

That's one sexy box set he got there.

See those 4 bolts there - one the bastards took a huge nick out of one of the CDs and now I silently cry whenever I look at my box set

heh, i thought that it didn't look like a safe combination of materials, looks like i was right. Sorry for your loss though.

Nothing beats his soundtrack to Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory. Seriously, I'm not even talking about how it's amazing as a game soundtrack (easily in my top 5), it's just awesome by itself, a must-listen to every person who loves Amon's output.

Atmospheric, groovy, and interesting from an analytical point of view, afterall, it's a bridge between Out From Out Where and Foley Room.

All those super amazing visuals are not there when I'm just listening to the album.

sure, isam is quite minimal; however the delicate texture and sheer size of each sound is overwhelming. i'm not expecting to convert u tho. isam, it would seem, is the rolling boil simmering down; a transition after the wicked intensity of foley room into a slightly more delicate, yet buxom sound pallet, preparing for who knows what..

I hadn't seen this before, nor had I listened to much of anything by Amon Tobin. The visuals here are mind-blowing in parts as is some of the sound design. The compositions on the other hand don't quite scale the heights of the aforementioned, although there are some excellent tracks in there upon cursory listening. I had been avoiding Tobin's work because I figured it would occupy the jazzy/loungey downtempo trope that music on Ninjatune often tends toward. It doesn't sound like that is the case for Tobin having listened to this.

the elastic percussion and soothing voices in this make me very harppy

how he isn't a featured artist on here still boggles my mind

I regard Bricolage and Permutation as brilliant (and for me very nostalgic) albums. Never got too interested in other albums for some reason, everytime I hear some snippets or random tracks it never stands out or compares with the moods on previous mentioned albums. The track in the OP is quite good though.

I saw him live as well twice, one time with that ISAM show, which was fucking annoying, and a month ago when he did a DJ set, which was also really dissapointing. Both experiences had other factors involved then just the music though, but it sure didn't help alot.

So watmm, what is a good Amon Tobin album that is in the vibe of Bricolage and Permutation?

have you gone all the way back to Cujo? those are probably my favorite works by him, in some ways they resemble Luke Vibert's Plug era more than later Amon tobin

Never even heard of that alias, let alone it being Amon Tobin, and if it sounds anything like the vibe of Plug then I'm in for a treat.

Supermodified, Chaos Theory and Adventures In Foam is all I'm saying.

Will defo check these out then, thanks everyone! :music:

Foley Room and everything before were fantastic, even the Monthly Joint series had some real bangers, ISAM however fell kinda flat.

the last one is too heavy on HI-DEF AWESOME SOUNDS and to light on actual music

I agree, from a production and engineering standpoint it was amazing, the sounds crafted were very cool. But aside from maybe "Lost and Found" and a couple other tracks it wasn't a very listenable album, a lot of the songs just didn't really go anywhere.

Word to the wise: Ninja tune is repressing Cujo - Adventures in Foam 3LP, it ships Sept 2. http://ninjatune.net/us/release/cujo/adventures-in-foam

I agree with the general sentiment here that everything he put out Cujo era through Foley Room is golden, but ISAM (the album, I did not see the show) has been an emotional flatline for me.

Absolutely loved it when it first came out and went to see the show (and as mentioned got the box set). The OTT production and sound design completely blindsided me for what's quite a shallow album - It's also dated quite badly with all the pseudo-brostep wobbles running throughout it

I haven't eaten a Wagon Wheel since 07/11/07... ilovecubus.co.uk - 25ml of mp3 taken twice daily.

Listened to the Chaos Theory album today. Was very good and had lots of psychotic drums.

There will be new love from the ashes of us.

Chaos Theory seems to get overlooked a little because it is a soundtrack (I think that happens to soundtracks by lots of artists) but it is a really good album. Theme From Battery and Cargo are great.

great track, this is the amon tobin that will always be the stuff I can go back and listen to any time. I think I only listened to Foley Room and ISam once and it had the same effect on me as watching a really good corporate Lexus presentation reel to a bunch of investors

Amon Tobin's new vid for his Two FIngers project is pretty cool, and pretty fucked up... which also reminds me I haven't really given that album a listen yet, probably need to look into that one.

Supermodified is my favorite by far. Love love love that album!

And I liked everything up to Foley Room a lot, but ISAM... I agree with all posted negative comments about ISAM. It has some nice sounds, but... egh...

That boxset looks amazing - but i couldn't bring myself to drop that much cash on it. Because I know i wouldn't be able to take care of it properly.

This! I avoid box sets, because my record collection is already heavy enough..

these, three, albums, fucking, rule.

Amon Tobin is pretty legendary for me, he's the artist that basically got me into electronic music. I discovered him through the Splinter cell soundtrack. And from there it was a pleasure discovering all of his albums. And that trajectory led me towards obsession into the works of Aphex Twin and Autechre and the likes. gateway idms?

I liked the ISAM show that I went to @ Decibel Festival two years ago, it was a pretty badass audio/visual trip (besides the head full of acid that accompanied the show...) The show really picked up when he started DJing his old stuff to random visuals tho

I appreciate Amon Tobin's music... but I can't say I've ever sat and really immersed myself into it, he's a brilliant dude, who makes/made amazing music, I just never felt it click with my emotions that much, so it's always been an analytic approach to listening to his music for me. Like reading the notes of an incredibly dedicated organic chemist or something when you prefer poetry, its interesting and cool, but feels clinical.

That box set looks like it would fuck up the vinyl if you were too hasty putting it back together...
