mp3 players...where have they gone

Recommended Posts

What's the deal with mp3 players? [/seinfeld]

Seem's the market has shriveled up and died on account of smart phones and Apple.

which is a huge shame, as i don't like mixing my music play back with my phone battery life

recently my zune 120 died - so on the search for a new player....any suggestions?

would like to have 120 gigs of space, or at least 80.

Nah, you're a wee child who can't wait for official release. Embarrassing. Shove your privilege.

On my third and wouldn't change it for the world.

Yes, they do seem to have vanished somewhat. Saying that, Sony are releasing the NWZ-F886 in October, and I'm exceedingly interested in buying it. It's a PMP, not a straight music player, but it plays high resolution audio files.

You answered your own question.

I got an 80gb harddrive player from apple, love it. I don't get why there aren't any more companies producing players like that. All other harddrive devices seem centered towards mp4 and are thus way too big.

Creative Labs (remember them ?!) do mp3 player that takes MicroSD cards - so I guess you could grab yourself a few 32gb cards to put stuff on - bit of a hassle but is an option. I use my phone now, but still have my 5+ year old Creative Labs Zen Stone in my bag (with all of 2gb storage !) and having tried it a week ago it still works completely fine and has a great battery life. So yeah, they're built quite nicely.

Plus you just drag and drop stuff on to it like a USB flash drive without having to install any bullshit.

I haven't eaten a Wagon Wheel since 07/11/07... ilovecubus.co.uk - 25ml of mp3 taken twice daily.

I just recently invested in a Sony walkman mp3 player (NWZ-E474) as I wasn't happy with the sound from my smartphone (ironically, a Sony Xperia Z with walkman built in, but it was quiet as fuck and a had thin sound). also the whole battery life thing too - the battery on my walkman lasts pretty much the whole week in one charge.

I bought 1 of these 240gb ones a while back from ebay. It was cheaper though.. think i got it for ~$300 which is cheaper than 160GB ones where i come from.

edit: nevermind just checked, it was $245

I really enjoy my ipod now that I've installed ipod docks in all the major rooms in my home. NOw if I could just get around to organizing my music and updating it.

There will be new love from the ashes of us.

I have a Sansa Clip +, it has 8gb of internal memory and I use a 32GB micro SD with it that once belonged to my smart phone. It's smaller than a match box and it's great for running/ exercising. Also it plays FLAC, MP3, WAV etc..

Cowon and Sansa make both really good Players. I own an S9 and a Clip+.

Fiio has an Player now called X3, it plays Files up to 192k/24bit.

I've got a 160gb Cowon X7 and although its bulky and the UI is fiddly the sound enhancement features (BBE, parametric EQ ect) work really well at fine tuning headphones and bringing out more detail from lower bitrate mp3's, the battery lasts ages too. iPods don't compare even the 7th gen classic which is as good as it gets from Apple.

Although the S4 and HTC One have decentish dacs they still aren't on par with a decent dedicated media player.

When I bought my X7 micro SD cards were still quite pricey but if i was to buy another mp3 player it would be the J3 or the new D20 with a stash of 32gb micro SD's.

http://www.advancedmp3players.co.uk/shop/about_us.php tend to have a good selection of current players however the after sales service isn't the best.

Before having the iPod touch, I got a Creative Zen MX. It made its functions very well, and the interface was modern, and the sound quality was very clear and equalized.

Anybody got experience with streaming music from their own computer to a phone or something? Seems ideal once you've got a data plan and a 1tb disk.

Google music is pretty ok once you have decent internet. Although you need a decent amount of internal memory free.

I still have an 8GB Creative Zen player and it does the job just fine. Except it doesn't have folder-structure and relies only on mp3-taggs, that is pretty lame. It still works fine though.

Pro-Tip for buying mp3-players: Shitty, over-priced, custom-format & -software-requiring mp3-players as well as other electronics are indicated by this warning-symbol proudly_use_logo_apple.gif- I call it "my lil' shopping adviser", it hasn't yet failed me.
