^ me too, and lol @ a $12,000 microphone

when I was in college studying Music Tech, we had a Neumann microphone that the college bought. But I don't know why, because no-one was allowed to use it due to the fact that it cost £15,000 at the time.

"Can I use that microphone?"

"Neu, mann."

*applause*

like anything it depends on what you're doing. making electronic music? you literally do not need anything more than a laptop with a DAW and some plugins. recording a drum kit and not going for a shitty blown out distorted sound, or want a clear recording of a vocalist? probably need some decent mic's and pre's and A/D conversion, doesn't matter how much you "know your craft" can't make up for the lack of halfway decent mic's if going for that sound. doesn't have to be a $12k mic per se, but they do tend to sound very nice.
