Can't seem to find these tracks on youtube, but I recommend getting this release. Twisted IDM remixes of Missy Elliot tracks. Listen @ 33rpm.

I need to check that out - I'm a big Kid606 fan and that release has escaped me for years.

[edit] when i was 16 the only music i had access to was pop music, i was not as lucky or intelligent enough or genetic enough to be predisposed to happen upon idm until much much later, in which case i am still stunted in my engagement with life and art, mostly due to choosing to be malnourished or poor environment, lack of education, genetics, too many chromisomes, being an idiot, wearing hand me downs, buck teeth, water on the brain, whatever.

lolz

Also, lol @ IDM...

Cry Me a River instrumental is fucking fantastic.

Edited by thanks robert moses

through the years, a man peoples a space with images of provinces, kingdoms, mountains, bays, ships, islands, fishes, rooms, tools, stars, horses and people. shortly before his death, he discovers that the patient labyrinth of lines traces the image of his own face.

Love ayo, great sample/theft from crystal castles

cry me a river is stupidly good, senorita off the same album is also excellent, but thats neptunes.

Timbaland is totally IDM-- like imagine if he grew up with a bunch of computer nerd friends in London and raved weekly in the 90's- he would totally be part of the electronic music scene. But instead, he was surrounded by more urban "yo yo yos", hence, him using his music skillz for such music. But I was totally being impressed by and studying his shit in the late 90's early 00, because his shit totally stood out on the radio.

One of his main charms to me- which some have stated is due to mixing engineers but naaaw, man- is his boxy sound. Some of his shit hits like a mahogany box, phucking phat ass boxy clunk, then some rhythmic shuffle shit and BAM. The other thing- which is where I suppose the creating dubstep thing comes from- is his half-beats (well, making 4 bars into 2 bars). Fatboy Slim used to do that as well, but his style was more go-go. Timbaland's half-beat shit had a shuffle and suction shit, that makes your body sway and pop n' lock fucking hard. One time I was dancing in the kitchen to a Timbaland pre-dubstep beat, and my dick ejaculated piss in my ass.
