QBLA
I kind of did one already for fun and posted it in the AAA thread. I think I'll do another though for this project. Yeah... awepittance
i might submit a few different things, some kind of mashup/collage and a song in the stye of modern autechre sort of going through all their crazy dsp techniques one by one . hope thats kosher. Had a discussion with o00o today and he's probably the only person on the message-board who went through the trouble of verifying all my 'theories' on what Autechre used on various albums of recent years. It's pretty validating to have someone do that instead of thinking i'm just talking out of my ass. If anyone is curious what any of these plugins/vsts/sounds are feel free to ask I'd be happy to help. I suspect the reason they stayed away from answering any specific questions about physical modeling is because they definitely do use it, and some of the actual physical modeling they use is very easily identifiable. They talk an awful lot about Max/msp but surprisingly a lot of these sounds are far more easy to obtain out of the box on several Reaktor ensembles, never heard anyone create these sounds on max/msp personally Edited November 15, 2013 by John Ehrlichman Thanks Haha Confused Sad Facepalm Burger Farnsworth Big Brain Like × Quote Hide awepittance's signature Hide all signatures Link to comment https://forum.watmm.com/topic/81179-watmms-tribute-to-autechre/page/3/#findComment-2092820 Share on other sites

They talk an awful lot about Max/msp but surprisingly a lot of these sounds are far more easy to obtain out of the box on several Reaktor ensembles, never heard anyone create these sounds on max/msp personally I have to admit when I was starting to make music, I was very interested into the sound of Autechre, but on the level to create my own AE-copy sound. You can imagine that I ignored all the experience both guys have in gear and synthesis as AE is no sound you get canned in and delivered after some tweaks with knobs. Later I found that attitude boring- there were so many people who could break up audio like them (remember Funkstörung?) and way better than me. After Untilted I got more and more interested into their sound without the need to copy it, but for example their use of metallic flangering/phasing is something I use today as well in compositions. Nevertheless a little insight how things were done at their part would be highly welcome- I think I can imagine a bit some of their old tricks (delay lines linked with a LFO to create random phases, extensive EQing) but with Oversteps I am out. Maybe you can do a little AE-Tutorial showing the best plugins/synths to create that AE-modular feeling and explaining a bit. For my tribute I will try to translate AE on a more concrete musique way, with some ancient synthesis and tweaking. Since that is my sound since 2006 it would be a nice challenge. I remember that AE had some little concrete flirt when they remixed Vliezwei and Deneir, both remixes that show a more concrete side of them. xox
ppl usually only have interest in AE's 'sound' and technical stuff but what make AE imo is their composing genius and the unusual syntax that are coming from their enormous sensibilities and extremely wide lateral horizon. yes, i know that it's all connected... sound sculpting, composing, mixing but what makes altibzz altibzz are the notes and the composing part the most, or yjy ux, or pen expers or vletrmx21 or 1 1 is, or irlite or see on see... that's why we have only one AE band in the last 20 yrs despite having hundreds of producers/sound designers knowing dsp magics even better than Ae, but weak in music creation. IN CREATION.fullstopremember incunabula and amber? what dsp magic was there involved? i dare all of those who think different to make an album better then incunabula or amber using everything we have today, if it would help them.lots of times listening to ae i wish they'd used different sound or mixed things differently but the essence that matters the most is always there.what about untilted? how many ppl have elektrons, nords and make shity music? almost everybody. watching those youtube videos with elektrons would never push me in a direction of buying the machines. those videos are the biggest anti-commercial for elektron and their biggest enemy, as it is elektron-users forum. pathetic! same as max/msp community or supercollider community. pathetic! biiiiiggggg brains megalomaniacs. still pathetic!i'm sure lot of elektron users could copy sounds of untilted but let them try to make something like untilted. or just sublimit or just the last 5 min of sublimit... right! good luck! awepittance
i don't know if people only have interest in Ae's sound palette necessarily. It seemed like most of the questions revolving around specific technique or approach to software were questions about how much generative/random/computer aided composition they use to make tracks, especially on things like OVersteps. I'm pretty fascinated by the sound palette, it's very unique, but I also appreciate the composition. But i agree with you that almost no one does these things as good as Autechre, which is why this compilation should be interesting coming from the fanbase, some of which own elektrom boxes, nords and some of the same equipment and software that autechre does. awepittance
sorry for the misquote, but i don't think that's true either. I'm probably one of the only ones on this forum obsessed with their actual sounds specifically, most people here are more curious about their methods of composition. But not many people try to recreate either when it comes to anything Untilted or after. There were hordes of AE imitators from before that era, I just think their new stuff is too 'weird' for people to even want to touch, which is why i'm hoping a lot of people on this comp don't go the Arovane route, because we've been down already Thanks Haha Confused Sad Facepalm Burger Farnsworth Big Brain Like × Quote Hide awepittance's signature Hide all signatures Link to comment https://forum.watmm.com/topic/81179-watmms-tribute-to-autechre/page/3/#findComment-2093079 Share on other sites
