The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug

Recommended Posts

I am not saying the Hobbit is that great of a movie, but I think some of you just love to complain and make an effort to hate any movie with mainstream appeal. I don't think there ever will be a movie made that you will like. So why not just stop watching movies if they are so horrible. And walking out of movies, I don't get it, you already gave them your money.

Yeah, I don't get walking out of movies either. I think I've seen at least 5 good movies for every bad one in the past year, so I don't think I belong to that group of "mainstream appeal haters". But things like PJ's LOTR & Hobbit trilogies are the lowest of the low, the bottom of it all. Words can't describe how much of a bad thing they are. They're much worse than Hitler, for instance.

And I'm completely serious.

*exploding sarcasm meter*

O_o

edit: nice attempt at Godwins Law.

No, man, I honestly think it's one of the greatest wrongs of our time. It crushes good stuff in the world, with such reckless power, it reaches so far and impacts so many... In such a bad way!

And I'm absolutely dead serious! Take the 5 most critical posts in this thread and multiply that negativity by 1892, that's how bad I think this is.

I know him personally guys, he's serious on this. I agree to a degree though, but wouldn't go so far as to call it eviler than Hitler.

www.petergaber.com is where I keep my paintings. I used to have a kinky tumblr, but it exploded.

I went to see it. Loved the books, when I was a toddler, hate them now, hate the movies.

Enjoyed it only very vaguely, like 1 enjoyments out of 10.

The film itself was about 0 films out of ten. Completely abysmal. It was just rubbish in every way. And I did give it a chance. It even looked like shit, and the whole story was so mediocre I don't think they had even read the book, just skimmed it and thought 'dragon, orchs, elfs, dwarfs, I know! Oh yeah ffs don't forget the ring!'

As evil as hitler / 10.

Looking forward to the special 6fps version.

Saw this in theaters, regular frame rate. Enjoyed it as much as the first one, it felt long but not in a dragging way. This are making me want to see LOTR again, I find myself more connected to more of the characters for some reason...but hell that might have to do with my age now versus then.

- Loved Stephen Fry's appearance

- They made Orlando Bloom look younger and somehow even more dullish

- Evangeline Lily was an excellent casting choice, she's not amazing or anything but she's personable (then again I'm a Lost fan)

- Everything seemed bigger and more "epic" in scale than expected - that's the one application of CGI I love when done right

- Barrel chase scene - great shots but I swear, swear, the quality of film dropped tremendously when it went into those POV shots (apparently from whitewater rafting) - like really bad camcorder quality. Anyone else notice that?

We all saw it, they could have invested a million and solved that but prolly was too late.

That's not true. There are certain movies I do like. I am not going to deny that I'm somewhat of a mainstream hater, but as I said, that's probably my own short coming.

Just gotta let the pleb enjoy their goodies.

Bread and games etc etc

FFS, it's a movie - apparently they're doing something right considering the billions it's grossed - if you don't like it, don't see it/buy the products - but don't go on like it's the coming of the antichrist or something - sarcasm or not, that's a bit overboard.

im about to go see this

then i will read mein kampf as well as a selection of literature penned by holocaust survivors

will report back with final verdict re: peter jackson vs. hitler

I expect a 40 page report on the patriarchy and resultant psycho-sexual fetishization of the phallus inherent in the film.

Bread and circuses actually, but who cares, right - being correct in quoting is such a pleb idea.

He was completely serious.

Also, has anyone noticed the peter jackson cameo in one of the very first scenes?

Dragons contain both male and female energy: http://www.dragonwithin.com/faq.html#question6

The sword might be, but you cannot contest the dwarfs extensive use of a powerful symbol of the matriarchy, the labrys

plus hitler was gay, and we need that tie-in to the movie.

Yeah exactly. In the context of any other film it would of been fine, it just stands out among the technical perfection elsewhere.

I don't mind at all - in fact some of my favorite films have things like scale models and historical footage sliced in and a few mistakes here and there.
