WINCHESTER — The Frederick County Sheriff’s Office has identified the father who shot his 16-year-old daughter Tuesday as Easton McDonald.

Capt. Donnie Lang said today that McDonald is a Loudoun County Sheriff’s deputy.

His daughter, a Millbrook High School student, remains at Winchester Medical Center and is in better condition than Tuesday, when she was stable, according to Lang. Her name was not released because of her age.

Deputies responded sometime around 3:45 a.m. Tuesday to McDonald’s residence at 417 Lily’s Way, off of Greenwood Road.

He was allegedly getting ready for work when he heard his interior alarm sound, indicating the garage door had been opened.

As McDonald approached the attached garage, he heard a bang and other sounds coming from inside and grabbed his firearm, Lang previously said.

When he opened the door, McDonald allegedly saw a person coming toward him and fired his weapon.

He then turned on the light and realized that he had shot his teen daughter, who was trying to sneak back into the home after sneaking out earlier that morning.

McDonald then attempted to drive her to the hospital, but crashed his vehicle on the way at East Lane and Cork Street in the city.

Shit is goin' down! Cops are more armed out here than the actual military! This shit didn't go down when there was a standoff at that Bundy ranch... In fact, the cops stood down! These cops need to be put in their place! But by who?

All the 2nd Amendment advocates who claim they need guns to fight gov't tyranny, of course.

To be fair the situation in MO is pretty much a direct example of the government using it's weapons and power to intimidate and abuse the citizenry...I can't side with people who want to ban guns until these types of things are non-existent.

Meanwhile, the entire city of Boston gets shut down for a military style manhunt for 2 people, and the crowd cheers. You can't have both. This is why the militarization is here to stay...

Post-9/11 funds and laws have armed so many local agencies with military equipment. A lot of private firms (including the big notorious ones liek Blackwater) are contracted to train them as well

 

The Governor of MO has ordered Ferguson Police (who were the ones in armored vehicles and camo) off of patrols of their own city. This is a good move in general. Legally it helps get backing from the FBI and state guard; city and town police departments are a lot easier to sue than state and federal agencies. Secondly, like them or not, the Ferguson police department needs a break. Lastly, and the main reason the governor is spinning, it's a good PR move.

Looks like the Ferguson police are starting to figure it out. They probably didn't like having having their phones and email disabled by Anonymous either.

I'm no conspiracy theorist... but I find it weird that so called survailance video that surfaced of Mike Brown robbing a store moments before his shooting a week later... that's enough time I think to fabricate a video and hire some look alike actors and come up with something... there was no reports of this all week.

27 officers killed last year, 26 of 27 were by gun. If people didn't have guns to shoot cops with, cops wouldn't need guns to shoot people with.

 

Also, 19 of those 26 cop killings were done with a handgun. Instead of saying "ban guns" why not just "ban handguns"? It would be much easier to 'sell' politically.

 

Nobody talks about it, but size matters. Weapons that are portable and easily concealed are going to be better suited for committing crimes:

 

How are you going to mug someone when they can see from half a block away that you are carrying a gun?

Would it be easy to rob a store when everybody outside the store sees you walking in with an assault rifle?

Could police ever use the "we thought he had a gun" defense?

 

Also, "ban handguns" would severely weaken gun owner opposition. It would focus the debate purely on "guns as self defense outside the home". You could have an assault rifle to defend your home. You could have a shotgun to go hunting. Hell, you could even have weapons to defend yourself against a tyrannical government, the classic Tea Party argument.

 

Finally, if "ban handguns" ever passed, we all know that gun crimes would drop dramatically, which would bolster the argument for banning all guns. Part of me is sympathetic to the "defense against the tyrannical government" argument, as wildly unrealistic as it is. But after making gun crime a truly rare occurrence, I think we could probably just drop the whole issue altogether and live peacefully while people use their rifles and shotguns for legal purposes. Everybody's happy.

here's my problem with what you're saying. just because someone doesn't have a gun doesn't stop them from still wanting to kill someone. i'd agree with your sentence if simply having a gun automatically makes someone want to shoot someone else. not everyone who has a gun is going around gunning people. imo, the problem is, why do people want to kill each other? they have just as many guns in canada and you don't see these kind of stats.

I don't think the militarization was done out of a necessity for proper performance.

I'm saying I don't think that militarization was enacted out of a necessity to perform police duties. I think it was done mostly as a way to transfer money between rich people, and it has a secondary effect of allowing "elite" people to manage the populous through intimidation and fear. It was at least partially done to enforce the insane drug laws that continually threaten the liberty of the citizens of the USA. Once people realized how profitable drug law enforcement was they just took advantage of the situation.

Oh no, it is absolutely a perception management thing. Whether the police magically become okay with black people is irrelevant, only that they treat them with some semblance of fairness as they are, in theory, guaranteed under the law.

 

Also, it's back to violence and there has been some rumblings of agitators getting into the crowds to kick things off.
