Do you guys honestly think "Come to Daddy" and "Windowlicker" are representative of mainstream efforts?

They certainly didn't get mainstream exposure at the time, it was quite easy to not know anything about these releases. Then again, he did say 'attempt'.

yes I suppose one could classify them as attempts. But if listening to either of those tracks led one to believe that they could hear them on mainstream radio, i would say either a) one has not listened to mainstream radio in a long time, or b) one is completely fucking delusional.

Plus i wouldn't classify them as attempts. He just met a very cool music video director, who visual projected his ideas in a classy way. (sorry i started saying classy lately i don't know why, i blame donald trump, it'll pass eventually.) These videos and those songs were just something that happened as he progressed as an artist. Perhaps they had dreams of reaching a broader audience, but wouldn't everyone.
