a number of people here have graduate degrees, it's not a special thing.

It means that the comment regarding Eugene being the only academic here is not accurate.

Also it's a pretty substantial amount of time and effort invested to get a graduate degree. So yeah it's probably special to the individuals that have them.

i have one. it's kind of a standard thing where i live before you'll even be considered for a job. the phd holders of watmm are few though. i can think of pbn, encey (i think)...anyone else?

Congrats!

That's crazy if it's a standard thing. I can count on one hand the number of people I know with a masters. Then again I'm only 24 so.. theres that. lol

Smetty is pursuing his PhD. Also sad but true: MA is the new BA Also, having sat in on seminars with PhDs I find the only real difference is they are willing to waste an extra 4-5 years at school.

Doctor Smetty.

I was just discussing that as the PhDs are becoming more common each day there should be a new degree above PhD. Some kind of megadoctor or something. But IDK, the whole thing is becoming ridiculous in some fields. Like you have to have at least TWO PhDs to be seen as worthy of some positions.

the one after PhD is called post-doc.

Yeah, but that sounds so boring.

Although post-doc post-IDM would sound like the most elitist music ever.

I have drunkenly made at least one of these threads so im saying nothing. although its pretty dark when you can get humiliated more on a forum where you know literally no-one in real life, more than things you do in say, real life.

Being humiliated on a forum is a bit of an odd thing though. It requires one or more dicks acting like knuckleheads (which happens to be the online norm) and someone allowing him or herself to be humiliated.

There's always going to be sensitive spots where others will kick as soon as they notice some sort of effect. And why wouldn't they? They don't know the other side and all they're seeing is some kind of response which is the whole point in these communities, right?
