When you're as smart and intelligent as me, listening to this kind of music can be very hard. My taste is so sophisticated.

Just because people can spot shitty music doesn't mean they're elitist or some shit like that. It just means they don't like shitty music.

I choose not to eat spam/canned meat. Skrillex is music's equivalent of canned meat. It's just a shitty product. Why digest that if you don't have to?

2013 never forget

this is a great answer

"At the end of the day it's DANCE music.. dancing is supposed to be fun. Dance music should be fun to... I don't think it's meant to be taken so seriously... it's not politics. More so than a genre, I think success has to come with being open about your personality, doing YOU and not giving a FUCK what people have to say. Those are the people who catch my attention at least. I come form hardcore and punkrock.. I came from the uncool lunch tables. I feel like there's this jock elitist mentality when it comes to dubstep in particular which is so against everything I stand for. BEING yourself, and not giving a fuck what others think. Not judging others.. For fuck sakes it's just MUSIC. stop taking it so seriously and have fun.. And if you dont like something, then just fkn forget about it! :)"

you're just ignorant

Please support your statement with examples.

There will be new love from the ashes of us.

My opinions/thoughts on Skrillex direcly correlate with my effort to be more carefree, less jaded, and focused on seeking out music I love. Life's too short to be snarky/cynical all the time, it's only nice in short bursts.

Anyway, I asked about his interest/fandom of Burzum.

I still think he's a nice guy but he is seriously misinformed if he thinks the elitism from original dubstep heads comes from a "jock" mentality. it's a funny statement considering that it's jocks and bros and cool-table-kids who spam his shitty music.

He's probably equating needlessly pissy and angry youtube comments with bullying and cynicism and somehow that got equated to the violent and threatening attitude people associate with jocks. Early on he never seemed to recognize that a lot of dubstep fans were more angry at his obliviousness to the original scene, all of his "you're jealous" smug supporters. People were angry not just at the music but often more at the fact that the term dubstep was co-opted and the music trends pointed to "drops" and anything BUT sub-bass and sparse, dubby sounds. But you know, history is unfair, and well, the original dubstep scene moved on too. Same with emo, punk, metal, etc. Popularity and co-opting is a bitch.

I also think he's smart enough to know many of his fans are idiots, jocks, and bros as well, but that's a dilemma for any popular musician, especially in the DJ/EDM scene. That's why I didn't warm up to him for ages: his fans. It's a huge undertaking to call that out as a musician and few artists do. Reminds me of that story when Tool invited Bill Hicks on stage at a huge outdoor show, and to their amusement, he mocked their entire crowd by asking them to look for his contact lenses. Skrillex won't do that. At least not now. He's a nice kids. That said, he has yelled at crowds for using their fucking phones though and that's encouraging.

too bad Lube Saibot wasn't hammering away on that AMA about how people ghost-write for Skrillex (aka he's not a real 'producer' like many celeb djs of his ilk)

absolutely, it's pretty well known a lot of the highest paid DJs have other people producing their work.

I remember hearing that about sasha in the late 90s.

Seems like a good reason to hate on the guy if he has no artistic integrity and has other people making his tunes. =/

Someone should hit him with that Rambo story about being ghost produced by Excision and Spor.

through the years, a man peoples a space with images of provinces, kingdoms, mountains, bays, ships, islands, fishes, rooms, tools, stars, horses and people. shortly before his death, he discovers that the patient labyrinth of lines traces the image of his own face.
