just like skrillex was there at the right place and right time in america, when white ppl rock music had just got so tired, uncreative, and irrelevant, and the few white kids left who hadn't decided to exclusively listen to rap were desperate for something else made by white people (and the technology allowing for anyone to produce an album in their bedrooms simply couldn't be held back anymore), someone else could be in that same type of right time and right place here. the waves of 'edm' seem to have crashed and broke, skrillex may still be a big ticket item but wubs/dropz are being used in kids' cereal commercials for chrissakes. in general it's basically a parody of itself now. there is a market waiting to be tapped into. a bridge from edm to a form of electronic music with a more lasting appeal. just like how swing bebop eventually turned into kind of blue

It's amusing that EDM is arguably a better (still needless) term than IDM, but more often than not someone who knows what IDM is enough to use the term is inherently more knowledgeable about electronic music than someone who says they like EDM

meh, this is why I hate genres and style tags that lack historical or musical connotation: much preferred terms for me are drum n bass, house, and techno (though that's a compromised term too) - those have certain agreed upon BPM rangers, familiar timbres and sounds, and a detailed origin
