Guest pixelives
Edit: Seems that most of LP5 is in mono. Something I never noticed before. Quote Link to comment https://forum.watmm.com/topic/8331-arch-carrier/page/2/#findComment-2042699 Share on other sites

mcbpete
I'd just ran the whole album though my stereo width analyser as I thought you were talking bum but holy shit you're completely right! They're not entirely mono but all have a really, really narrow stereo sound stage. The only track that seems to have any particularly large stereo field is fold 4, wrap 5 with the phasery kick percussion snaps Thanks Haha Confused Sad Facepalm Burger Farnsworth Big Brain Like × Quote Hide all signatures I haven't eaten a Wagon Wheel since 07/11/07... ilovecubus.co.uk - 25ml of mp3 taken twice daily. baph
Yeah, ae love their mono, or rather they use stereo very judiciously and deliberately. Exai really goes crazy with the stereo imaging by ae standards, a big part of what gives the album a "new" feel even when the material isn't otherwise breaking new ground (for the 'chre) (IMO). Schlitze
Upon gathering our thoughts, are we to presume Arch Carrier will come zooming at us like a phoenix from the ashen flames? Who knows, but this old dog of a thread has reminded me I haven't listened to LP5 for ages, i'm gonna give it a blast right now. Guest pixelives
A lot of classic techno and house 12" were cut in mono because in the 80's a lot of club systems were wired that way. Much less so these days. But it gave you this sort of central zone punch and you didn't have to deal with phasing issues. I think the Paradise Garage was wired mono for one. Maybe it's a nod to that old school approach. Quote Link to comment https://forum.watmm.com/topic/8331-arch-carrier/page/2/#findComment-2045267 Share on other sites

I really like this new approach. It's more the way my mind works. The only thing I don't like is when (not Ae) people will mix things that have that slow crawl across the field back and forth. HATE THAT. Quote Link to comment https://forum.watmm.com/topic/8331-arch-carrier/page/2/#findComment-2045268 Share on other sites
ambermonk
Arch Carrier is still amazing, even 15 years after LP5's release. And the fact that the father of WATMM started this thread also makes me smile Thanks Haha Confused Sad Facepalm Burger Farnsworth Big Brain Like × Quote Hide ambermonk's signature Hide all signatures On 10/21/2015 at 9:51 AM, peace 7 said: To keep it real and analog, I'm gonna start posting to WATMM by writing my posts in fountain pen on hemp paper, putting them in bottles, and throwing them into the ocean. modey
Yeah, beautiful from start to finish, as is all of LP5 really. I love how they do their usual end track thing and completely fuck it up using repetition; really makes it sound bleak.
