just wanted to inform you guys that i landed my first bs crooked grind today, i'm super stoked

had my 1st session of the year at the local skatepark, managed not to hurt myself this time (had a close call falling on my sacrum at some point but no injury). fucking awesome park btw and brand new at that. 1st time i skate in a park that meets the american standards, fucking game changer baby. i'm leaving this town in a couple weeks though, bummer

landing the crook felt so fucking good. it's not a trick i tried a lot back in the days. i stopped trying very quick, out of frustation for not managing to land it. i've never had a problem locking into it and sliding all the way but i could never slide off the end of a ledge, which is a common problem when you learn this trick i guess. btw there was this dude at the park who kept trying crooks on the ledge, poor sucker couldn't land a single one. which gave me the idea to try

here's my trick tip for it:

- make sure the ledge is waxed, otherwise there's no way you'll land it. it needs to be slippery. most important factor imo

- go pretty fast, otherwise there's no way you'll land it. 2nd most important thing. these 2 factors combined are the secret to landing it

- and then it's all about the angle at which you approach the ledge, your foot placement, weight distribution and timing

here's a picture of the ledge for your enjoyment (the dude isn't me, i took a screenshot of a youtube vid - that's the only thing i could find that showed the ledge since the park is very recent and also covid i guess)

expect no less than a 10-page essay the next time i land a new trick

are you out of your mind? we must come from different planets because in my book, fs crooked is way harder than bs. the weight is distributed in a very unnatural way imo, whereas any idiot can land bs crooked cause they're fucking easy

also, your chest isn't facing where you're going in a fs crooked, whereas bs crooked is basically haha front truck go brrrrr

I was real good when I was younger, and pretty obsessed. I was landing 180 flips and working on 360 flips, but pretty much quit in 99. (Hence my possibly outdated terminology) Then when my daughter got old enough I taught her and started up randomly here and there. Now, my son is getting into it and I’ve been getting back into it pretty hard. I can still ollie pretty high and land kickflips, but damn some the shit...... also, I tore my acl a few years ago (skateboarding randomly) it was pretty minor, but it definitely has impacted me a little.

When I was young really wanted the alien workshop spectrum deck, but they stopped making it by the time I could get one. Got a Fred gall slick instead that was cool- building block design. Anyways, recently I saw the spectrum deck as a complete, bought it, replaced the stuff it came with, and:

bought a welcome 8.5 about a year ago after not skating for 20 years. was surprised at how big modern boards were. so much better once you get used to it. granted i suck and mainly just cruise.

I wish I could skate bigger decks. I really feel more comfortable on bigger boards, but I can’t flip them good. When I was good I rode a 7.62, and it was always so hard to find decks that size. I eventually gave in and got a 7.75, but it was still a little harder for me to flip. It’s funny because when I started really getting into it (late 80s/early 90s) small deck seemed all the rage, but eventually it seemed like everyone I knew had 8s or bigger. I will probably get a big toy machine deck at some point and get some big ass wheels as a “cruiser” just because, like I said- I really do feel more comfortable on one.

Here’s my garage I’ve been “deckin’ out” with my old stuff and my kids boards:

Chad Muska re-released the Muska boards and signed some boards also..

The boards sold out just in some hour. Probably one of the most good looking boards.
