got to say, i like the sound of the b-side to lemonade, hard

https://bleep.com/release/52907-sophie-lemonade-hard

really fucking original, either you like it or not, you must admit the creativity

considering average releases nowadays it's a great thing,

it means, genres and electro music doesn't have to be super weird and experimental to cross limits,

i dug Sophie's first release when it came out, but Hard is beyond that

Hipster light neo-dance bullshit. One catchy track Bipp, one hit wonder.

oh how wrong you are sir

Well i'll admit i was too critical cause i'm tired of this type of glossy sound design trend. This track is nice, but still nothing deep, same way i can call Skrillex impressive.

I have all his other EPs cos theyre wicked. Im just not mad on paying 15+ quid for less than 4 minutes of music.

10" would have been sufficient quality with the length of those tracks. This is a recession people.

I love how anything new that gets some buzz is denounced as "hipster bullshit."

It's actually pretty hilarious.

This is dance music. It doesn't really sound like other dance music these days, so it stands out.

It kind of reminds me of Arca in that it's very computery and synthetic, but it also sounds pretty huge.

I think it's good and it's going to "change the game" of computery dance and pop music.

btw, is trap-house dead yet?

imo i think it gets called hipster bullshit because it sounds nostalgic and it makes a point out of being based on traits which are considered compromised and meaningless. i'd say these are key elements of the hipster aesthetic as of 2014.

some nice elements here and there there. that vocal mix track is decent.

personally what i like about all this is the abstraction of pop traits into a bunch of impersonal sounds which are more like noise automatically generated by the workings of ideology than a crafted product. in this sense this is the same as vapour. however, just like vapour, it ultimately doesn't quite work (opinion) because besides the concept itself it doesn't contain much that can ground a new ideological machinery (which is always the matter when you're commenting on poppiness.)

(going beyond plunderphonics is a step forwards compared to vapour though, because it's a much more abstract approach and it precludes the culturalistic fascination with sample sources. that's always the dark side of sampling, whether it takes the form of wise curators or hipsters making the ebay prices of the most stupid things skyrocket.)

lol barcelona airport

it doesn't get triter than that. that's like the nail in the coffin. i can't take this stuff seriously after that comment. now i know 100% it's a fake.

It's called hipster bullshit cause it's really small circle of music production which is immediately identified. Yeah, no other dance music, sure. There's a shitload of "sounds like no other" dance music in every country of the world with historically deep musical traditions, yet we're sentenced for one very narrow way of thinking of how music should be done, supported by infinite "changes of game" buzz in self-enclosed media and shops.

I have the feeling that the replay value is low on these tunes. When you've listened to the bunch, he sounds a bit like a one trick pony. Sound production is nice, but musically speaking it sounds a bit empty

yeah i mean besides that one vox mix thing, which is just a catchy pop song, the rest is pretty horrible

sophie is one of the few artists that took me some time to digest their music before i could appreciate it a bit more.

it looks like there is a "movement" with musicians who release similar music on a record label called "PC music" (and elsewhere, possibly).

kid-like voices, bubbly beats etc. most of the songs have a fun-playground feel

Some of these songs have the potential to be the next Harlem Shake thing. Wouldn't be surprised to hear Lemonade in a club a few months from now. Sounds very similar to Arca.

watmm anti jpop front.

that sounds like capsule circa fruits clipper and 10000 other acts. they've been using the same sounds for like 10 years.

sophie is definitely better despite its insubstantial style-based aesthetic

let's erase the "wa" from watmm!
