Ads only impact the United States, at first. Ads will only target the US, and only be heard in the US. That makes some sense, as it’s the largest listening audience on the site. It seems a no-brainer that this will extend to other markets in the future if it’s a success.

What will the ads sound like? You’ll definitely hear them – think something along the lines of what you see on YouTube, only longer, and… you know, sound.

SoundCloud tells CDM, “audio ads will be occasional, skippable after 15 seconds, and up to 30 seconds long.”

You can opt out of ads on your content. Don’t want ads on your content? Like so many labels and producers, you use SoundCloud mainly to promote record sales (even on vinyl) and live gigs, and worry about making your money there? No problem – this is an opt-in service.

You’ll eventually be able to pay not to hear ads.

ruh roh. thirty seconds!! All they need is maximum is something like this, "this track is sponsored by toyota, toyota end of financial year deals on now". Any more than that would be trying for the consumer and counter productive for both the artist and the platform.

What if the ads have better music?

lol then the ads would stimulate us to make better music and that better music would end up in new ads that would push us even further, like in a positive feedback.

evolution of soundcloud by evolution in soundcloud!

Be cool if the ads featured my music as the background, then i'd get paid twice (if the user heard the ad on my account). heh.

I hope you can stream Sigue Sigue Sputnik's Flaunt it with 30 second ads between the ads that are already on the actual album!

Flaunt It was unique in that the band sold off spots between songs for advertisements. Ultimately, ads for L'Oréal, i-D magazine, the short-lived London pirate television station NeTWork 21, and London's Kensington Market clothing shop Pure Sex were complemented by fictitious ads for the Sputnik Corporation and the (unreleased) Sigue Sigue Sputnik Computer Game;[3] a spoken word advertisement (narrated by the Sputnik Corporation voiceover) for EMI closes the album. All original CD versions and the version released in Germany also include an ad for Tempo, a lifestyle magazine.[4] The liner notes include small print ads for the various advertisers, as well.

Also, let's have 30 second ads between every song on some grindcore album with five second songs!

this is fucking genius.

wondering if its gonna be "related" adds like a Justin Bieber announcement on a Rihanna track or somehing more "product placement" and if so, would it be a Dorito add, a Apple add like?

i'm extremely curious about it and for some reason i wish it gonna be ridiculous
