The first time I actually heard aphex was back in '94 because my uncle had SAW II. This is good music for a 7 year old to hear. I thought a lot of the tracks were recorded from the inside of pyramids or ancient temples, like someone just stuck a microphone in there and recorded whatever sounds were happening in there. I think I got distracted by his Dinosaur jr CDs though.

Then I became a total fan in 2007.

This is my favorite origin story.

I'm a fan since 2008, haven't been able to buy any album because i live in Venezuela, so i got the discography from The Pirate Bay. My all-time favorite track is Xtal from SAW85-92, second one is Mt Saint Michel + Saint Michael's Mount. I really hope that this album blows our minds.

Saludos :)

I bought Richard D. James when it first came out and was blown away! I then bought .. I Care Because You Do and didn't like it that much in the beginning, but it quickly grew on me. Now, I'm a little afraid that Syro won't be as good as I hope it will be. It's been a while.

I found Aphex after a friend recommended me Autechre ‎– Incunabula during the Windowlicker / Come to Daddy hype. He was much more into Autechre than Aphex but for me it was the other way round at first.

I guess you could say your uncle helped you get on... *puts on sunglasses* The Wagon.

Nah, that doesn't work.

All your upright-bass variation of patanga shitango are belong to galangwa malango jilankwatu fatangu.

my first aphex record would've been come to daddy. I was given two tdk 90's waay back in 97 of a friend's top aphex picks, and they included saw 1, some of the stuff from classics, and possibly a few gems I've never in retrospect identified. way back in 1995, when we were raiding the neighbours ganja patch, getting wasted under uv light, a rich tapestry. if I could pick? polynomial c, that.251 one from the abb series, and rhubarb. it's been a long road, endless years of aphex album? Google searches. 10/11/12/13/ ad infinitum

afaik i usually place all my cum drops on scientifically sterilized glass slides which are carefully frozen and placed in trash cans throughout the city labelled "for women ❤️ alco" with my social security and phone numbers.

i bought druqks on release by mistake. my brother and i (i was 14, he was 21 at the time) were discussing at the drive in, and i was talking about i loved all the details in there songs, organs you could barely hear etc and he said if liked detail in music i should buy aphex twin's come to daddy. so i asked my friend to download it for me (he adsl, we had 56k) and windolicker, we loved it, but i loved waaaaay more. so i walked into my local hmv to pick up these albums (i did not know they were ep's) and i saw a wall full of druqks so i picked that up in stead. my brother then recomended warp recorded to me and introduced me to tdr. yada yada yada 13 year later im a loser graphic designer.

i'm kinda embarrassed to say 'yes' to the op question but yes. i'm barely 18 though and i only really got 'into' music in the last few years. anyways, the first aphex thing i ever remember hearing was pac man. it was in this dumb flash animation i saw on newgrounds or something in like 2005. little did i know just under a decade later i'd be obsessed!!!

petina now you mention it I think the first Aphex song I heard in it's entirety was 4, David Firth (Salad Fingers guy) made a music video for it and I heard it through him, before that I saw a few seconds of Come To Daddy on some Channel 4 'top 100 scary music videos' thing

This is the first for me. I got into Aphex around 2007 or 2008, after a friend showed me Drukqs on the ride home from school. I remember hearing Vordhosbn for the first time actually.

That's cool though. Pretty awesome that you got into his stuff at such an early age. I hate it when people discriminate based on age, like when some of my older friends give me shit for not having seen certain comeback bands when they were originally touring, due to being 10 years old when they were last around.

Scary thought though - that means the man was only 5 years old when Drukqs came out and only just born when Richard D. James Album came out. That makes me feel so old !

I haven't eaten a Wagon Wheel since 07/11/07... ilovecubus.co.uk - 25ml of mp3 taken twice daily.

haha i know, its so weird knowing one of my favourite albums came out when i wasnt even a year old.

September 1998 I saw him for the first time live at the Olympia Theatre in Dublin .. was hanging out with a load of E heads and they brought me to the gig. Mind blown. Lapped up all the WARP stuff t the time and got big into the Tom, BoC, Ae etc. Those same freinds found it all too abstract and only seemed to like straight techno. I fucked up a lot of their parties playing braindance :)

Seen him 12 times DJing since then accross Europe and am extremely hyped for Syro!

I became an Aphex fan in 2011, so yes, this is the first release I live of him, also with Autechre (Exai), and Plaid (Reachy Prints), and every fucking IDM artist because I didn't know what was IDM back 3 years ago.

I used to enjoy to piss some people off, remember was at one party and one ginger guy was totally aphex twin fan, at that time the tuss was a huge deal, I remember people just were sitting in front of the laptop and watching rushup i bank 12 for detailed analysis of each second. And remember was extremely bored and just said to that guy(don't remember did he actually was with afx t-shirt) that "Aphex Twin is no better than a local gay community artist with synthteseizers" and that guy went totally ape shit immiediatly, remember had to leave that party because afraid of being fuckin stabbed
