This is corny but I actually plan on listening to it on Christmas Eve. Supposed to be a happy time of year. this song makes me happy and its very warm so why not. For me this is the synthesized equivalent to sitting by a fire, drinking cocoa.

lolol. Exactly! My parents used to listen to their favorite artists usually horribly corny Christmas albums. I shall (sort of) do the same. (that image is so perfect for this song ha)

The water udu is my favorite part. I could tell there was something unique about that part of the track from the metz recording but couldnt sort it out.

yeah definitely, always loved the last 3 minutes, never thought it was a water udu

is that what it is? it's funky as shit and it did make me think of kill bill. son of a bitch.

divine frequencies

thank you richard

the definition of divine made me lol:

: relating to or coming from God or a god

: very quite good

love the false ending at 7:28. could have been a complete song right there, but you would want more, so the song is like ok, here's this whole other part.

noone does those like afx. see: rushup i bank 12

what are the lyrics in the intro?

Something like "___ is going to cut you, and make jelly out of your semen and your sick, would you like to pay the bill (ring the bell)?"

OMG

Possibly the highlight

I think so.

Even though the other tracks are incredible, I think Metz will end up as the essential, timeless piece on Syro. Beautiful mix of his ambient roots brought up to date with more layers and more gear.

Also has anyone looked into the painting Thanaton III (where I presume he got the title?).

The artist says this on the purpose of the painting: "Use the imagery - almost machine-like - and it will respond to you....it will literally bring you, for an instant, into the fifth dimensional realm". Chimes really well with one of the recent interviews with Richard where he talks about his music wanting to change you in some way, on a cellular level, rearranging the way you think.

I think music is a drug for Richard, and the music he makes is about trying to get as close to that experience as possible. That could explain why he doesn't really care for releasing a lot of his music? He enjoys listening to it with his close friends (as people enjoying tripping out with their friends), but releasing it to the public takes that intimacy away. It'd be like taking LSD with someone on the other side of the planet. Even if you knew they were enjoying it, would you really care? It's about your experience with the substance (as it is with Richard and his music).

Those are just some of my thoughts triggered by the Thanaton painting anyway.

lol at your pitchfork prediction. Before hearing it I was thinking they would do a 7-8. after minipops review I was thinking they might actually do a 9.. silly me, of course its an 8.7 ;)

Already feeling like this is the true pinnacle of electronic music. I know it's been a stone cold classic for a long time but it feels like everything RDJ has done has led to this moment and this track.

Absolute perfection, I can't stop listening...

I think this track is the pinnacle of Syro, not necessarily his entire oeuvre. It is definitely the best of its type.

last rushup 10 is shite compared to this sry

so wrong, but doesn't take away my love for xmas evet. I think the opening 2 tracks from both albums (rushup and syro) are the best 1-2 combinations of his entire career. It's hard to chose which one i like better

This man speaks the truth. My mind is still blown by the way Rushup Edge begins. Every time I hear Synthacon 9, I always say to myself, "This is the best RDJ track in history."

Is this, like, a line from a novel or something? Not sure if it was a William S Burroughs moment...

Lyrics in the start:

"Twin is going to cut you, and makes you (eat?) a toe

They say you can be sick, it's an ita-ing to do"

anybody who can decode the russian at 2:25? it sounds like "ke glindykush, mo tenerif, a tynosje, ta niosof, gli"

"Time is going to get me, it makes me feel ok... were sleeping in music, melting eye to end the day" or something

and looped sample of clock/winding the watches or how you Englishman say it, at end of 6th minute, like he's buying some extra time for himself

there's plenty of stuff about time, on this album

very sad song

XMAS_EVET10 [120][thanaton3 mix] is a light in the darkness. it's like the "cure" / "answer" to my depression. dunno, complex emotions.

it's just instantly reminded me of sound, when my grandpa winded his old watches in the morning, associations...

but it could be link to nannou, you're right!)

Did some good acid last night at a show. Listened to xmas today and was so moved by it I started tearing up...

Such a beautiful track, really a masterpiece. I'm so happy to have this music now.
