Credit to Banksy, the "shredder" thing actually made me pay a little attention to his bland, consumerist art for a couple hours.

The stunt was likely as not approved by the auction house, the buyer is satisfied, and the value of the piece has increased.  What a scathing commentary the modern art world and not in any way a self promotion stunt.

His argument is a bit problematic. He's saying that it was done on purpose to increase the value of the painting, I'm assuming because it was shredded in public and made the news. Then he goes on to say that the actual painting wasn't destroyed, but the shredded part is only half of a facsimile. So whoever bought it, assuming they were 'in on it,' would have to go on pretending that their totally fine painting that wasn't shredded, was in fact shredded to hold the new value of it.

Seems pretty overly complicated and they should have just fucking shredded it.
