What sort of music do you like to make?

By funk do you mean acoustic funk (slapped bass, guitars riffs etc.) or electronic funk (synth slapped bass, midi riffs etc.) ? that's not sarcastic I'm really curious to know.

As for myself I've been making almost strictly hip-hop beats recently because I'm the lucky owner of a MPC500 (and because it's quite simple to do) but I'm (re)discovering trackers and I'm yet trying to do some drum'n'bass.

Purplestep and Mediabore mainly. Trying to get into making Schtoopno but finding the rancid arps real tricky to articulate.

I haven't eaten a Wagon Wheel since 07/11/07... ilovecubus.co.uk - 25ml of mp3 taken twice daily.

Probably more electronic funk. I do find creating a really funky bassline challenging. My co-ordination isn't great so that gets in the way. I need to do piano lessons to see if that might help.

By the way I was always curious about the MPC 500 and came close to buying one but heard bad things about the OS. I mainly use Beatmaker2 for making music on the go. :-)

Yeah, bass lines are my weak point as well...I'm a former piano player tho, but I never manage to make it sound as lush as I'd want it, or as groovy (currently working on it, I've just been discovering the power of EQs lol).

As for the MPC : the main problem with the OS is, I think, the loading and saving system. You never really know what you just saved, under which name etc. This and the two-lines "monitor" make it quite uncomfortable to work with for a long time, but you do nonetheless get all the fun and the sounds you expect from an MPC, within a short time.

Oh and you really have to buy one with the RAM extension. Mine don't have it and I'm really quickly limited by the size of the samples I use !

I like to try to make music that sounds what I think it would sound like if you introduced aliens to human instruments , just weird noise/ambient shit which there isn't really a market for. It's just the most fun to make.

Sean Ae yeah so many of these analogue forums are people 90% bragging ang 10% uploading tracks that go fdghfgdhfddhgasfgdsfdsahfdfhdsgfgds

Mostly try to recreate cash grab trip hop remixes of pop songs from the 90s. Mostly. That and the odd bit of GrimeTech.

Weird techno, ambient wankathons and piano remixes.

Yeah I just wish people made less weird music on here lol.

Most independent/bedroom producers consider their own music "weird". I know that's what I would say about a lot of my own stuff.

But I think it comes from a place of not having loads of confidence in your own style/ideas ("oh, my stuff's weird, you probably wouldn't like it").

Other times it is just plain weird though, but that happens when you're making "experimental" music, trying to find something undiscovered.

cosmic disco, minimal techno, synthpunk, synthpop, amiga demo style, black metal, surf rock spaghetti western stuff, post-metal, industrial, jazz, power electronics, progressive rock, dnb, ambient, shoegaze, grindcore, berlin/dusseldorf school, idm, psych folk, or combinations thereof.. I kinda just like to try everything

also been getting into skweee a little and maybe it's showing in my tracks

You're probably right. I like a few of my tracks but the majority will normally have one good part surrounded by something average. Should probably take more care with them. The main enjoyment I get out of making music is tweaking and making a specific sound, once I've had enough of it the rest of the stuff that completes the song, I don't care so much about. I probably should of just said shit instead of weird

I try to find a fine line between losing myself in the emotional bliss of jamming and having the foresight to sometimes record. I really miss jamming with others. Nothing musically I can conceive by myself compares to the intense connective emotions of a shared musical experience.
