the sony hacking scandal

Recommended Posts

heres another more realistic scenario than my gmail hack hypothetical. What if other hacker groups are seeing the response to this as a way to just fuck up american society in general? For instance, what if: an anarchist or just crazy hacking group made some kind of threats or demands based around Star Wars Episode IV, not choosing the movie for any political reason, but just seized on the release of something that huge so that if its premiere were to be disrupted people everywhere would be furious and lose their shit.

I hear a lot of people talking about this in the context of 'well it looks like a shitty movie but we should stand up for it", what if it was something everyone was dying to see?

it's funny how everyone still thinks it's north korea when there has been no "official" statement, just a few intentional leaks "supporting their suspicions". wouldn't it be more convenient for everyone to think this was the work of a well-funded foreign enemy than an inside job?

Gawker is offering to screen the movie in NYC and pay for it themselves:

Know a couple of reporters that are working hard on this story, and there's been a lot of off-the-record chatter from a couple of three-letter agencies. Fox news blows goats, come the fuck on people.

That guy in the CBS article is a tool: Sony transfers a shit ton of data every day - Raw movie files are something like 30GB/minute of data. Combined with Sony's clearly incompetent IT team (the hackers used kiddie scripts for part of the attacks ffs), it's completely plausible that this could be North Korea.

Plus keep in mind, North Korea fucking hates Japan. The entire myth of Kim Il-Sung (first and still most-revered leader of NK) was built off his reputation as an anti-imperialist (meaning anti-Japanese) fighter.

In dozens of recently leaked emails from the Sony hack, lawyers from the MPAA and six major studios talk about "Goliath" as their most powerful and politically relevant adversary in the fight against online piracy. They speak of "the problems created by Goliath," and worry "what Goliath could do if it went on the attack." Together they mount a multi-year effort to "respond to / rebut Goliath’s public advocacy" and "amplify negative Goliath news." And while it’s hard to say for sure, significant evidence suggests that the studio efforts may be directed against Google.

seriously doubt anyone's scared of physical threats and are really just scared of hacks as repercussion for showing the movie(s?)

My thoughts exactly.

Also this quote pissed me off in light of our monopoly-bolstering IP laws:

“The White House stands squarely on the side of artists and other private citizens who want to freely express their views.”

Although I guess that has more to do with congress and Disney lobbying than the White House.

holy shit, this is blowing up!

Some songs I made with my fingers and electronics. In the process of making some more. Hopefully.

you dont fuck with the operations of an organisation who assassinated JFK and perpetrated 911, armed and trained terrorists, and is desperate to keep a grip on world politics not even mentioning cocaine and heroin. not saying theres a remote possibility of "everything being under control" or anything silly like that.

(i dont mean the cia of course)

It’s very wise that you have made the decision to cancel the release of 'The Interview'. It will be very useful for you.

Now we want you never let the movie released, distributed or leaked in any form of, for instance, DVD or piracy … And we want everything related to the movie, including its trailers, as well as its full version down from any website hosting them immediately.

if these guys had any sense of humor, they should have ended it "we are #gop. we do not forgive. we do not forget. expect us... next week. later!"

did you already check out the address book? It was surreal and mind blowing to see the addresses and seemingly private emails of so many A-list celebs. Also seeing the actual e-mail handle used by people like Oprah and Jennifer Lawrence was weird.

You guys wanna troll LArry David via email?

naw, i still haven't looked through it much. too busy to really delve into this.

im still not buying that N Korea is behind this, For a while we didn't think this guy sent anthrax but instead blamed it on islamic terrorists. I'm still proceeding with caution
