There's no difference to a lot of white folks. I corrected a dude once who called me Mexican.Told him I'm Puerto Rican. He said what's the difference. I then cold clocked him and got suspended.

spanish speaking = mexican for a lot of white people.  but it's a regional thing. miami and NYC obviously i's going to be different than north carolina and somewhere middle america.  I'm grateful i grew up in miami for so many reasons.

there's a lot of places in america where people born, raised, die in the same town their whole lives. never leave. have no idea what other people in the world or even in their own state/country are like. it's weird.

Man, I couldn't even imagine a life like that, not knowing what the world is like outside of your hometown. But this is coming from somebody who grew up in five different states and lived briefly in a non-English-speaking country. Of course the downside to that is difficulty in maintaining lasting friendships, mainly because of having to move so frequently.

i hear ya.. i mean.. i know people who didn't make enough money or have enough time off etc to travel a bit when younger but were exposed to so much of other cultures because miami is deep w/lot's of stuff and it takes only a little effort to check things out plus it's inevitable to have spanish speaking friends, jewish friends, black friends from any number of places. the diversity of a city can be such a huge gift. NYC is such a mix of people.

moving a lot can be a drag after a while but 20 years later it's interesting to think about.  i'm glad i left when i did.

The irony here is that a lot of white Americans are quick to call themselves Irish or German or whatever country their ancestry is from without considering that they are 100% not from there.
