you know what the shitty thing is? nothing is going to happen to that frumpy sack o'shit Ted. his term is up in 2024, and by then no one will care. or even worse, people here WILL remember and still vote for the clown...there's just got to be a better way to get rid of elected officials when they are complete and total royal fuck ups like Ted.

I must confess, I don't really see how having Ted Cruz physically in Texas in the last week would have helped anything (aside from his public image obvs).  Is it just a symbolic "he should suffer with us" grievance, or could he have legit done anything to help the power crisis if he didn't leave the state?

physically he didn't need to be here. he can make phone calls, send emails, video chats, or whatever he could have done to help people in need from anywhere. but if you're heading to Cancun, then are you going to be working on helping said people or lounging around sipping cervezas by the pool? with a fucknut like Ted, I'd guess the latter. that's why people are pissed. because he headed out on vacation in the middle of a disaster. it's the "I don't give a shit" attitude that rubs people the wrong way. Ted will lie and say he was going to be working down there but c'mon...they don't call him "Lyin' Ted" for no reason.

the optics for the zodiac are bad of course.. but he could be there advocating for his state.. being a voice.. doing interviews on cnn or fox news or whatever talking about what's going on to raise the profile of what's needed. he could also be speaking to feds in various departments and being a go between. as a senator he has access and power. people would listen to even him. if someone is dropping the ball somewhere in the relief effort he can get on the phone and call someone's boss and read that person the riot act or whatever.. os deliver praise for people doing shit right.. there's lot's he do as a conduit of information.. he's elected to represent his state and he isn't doing that.

texas governor is a republican tho right?

He's one of the most right-wing governors in recent history, he's just as not as an overt Trump stan as Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick or State Attorney Ken Paxton. MAGA folks literally just call anything and everyone Dem, socialist, communist, etc. if it's not their liking.

Well howdy. A-ok. Me and the family were without power from 8am onward on Monday (2/15). 6-8" snow and sun that day but it was in the teens and wind chill wasn't over 0 deg F until afternoon. Still ok enough to bust out the propane grill and make a hot dinner. Tuesday was technically warmer but overcast and freezing rain covered everything. That day felt more grim. Both nights it was 52 deg F inside. We had plenty of food, beverages, blankets and flashlights but man, it was still kind of surreal and chilly. Thank god I had a shitload of batteries and some random battery radios/tape players. Kids were good sports - got used to no electronics, tried chess out with my 5 year old, daughter busted into her toys. Our goofy as dire wolf mutt loved it.

Anyway water has become boiling required in Austin and some power is coming back. Driving is doable too - yesterday I managed to wait a bit and get 93 octane gas. That's the one thing I wish I topped off on before all of this shit. We went to a friends house yesterday who has power. It's been nice. Hot coffee. Quick but warm shower. No visible breath inside. Going outside isn't as daunting in terms of warming up. Work calls and emails are starting to trickle in again but thankfully not a lot of pressure or urgency. If our house still doesn't have power by tomorrow we'll likely drive down to Spring, TX with my FIL who has power.

Today’s revolution has been defined by a set of very specific values: boundarylessness; speed; universal accessibility; an allergy to hierarchy, so much so that the weighting or preferring of some voices or products over others is seen as illegitimate; seeing one’s own words and face reflected back as part of a larger current; a commitment to gratification at the push of a button; equality of access to commodified experiences as the right of every human being on Earth; the idea that all choices can and should be made instantaneously, and that the choices made by the majority in a given moment, on a given platform represent a larger democratic choice, which is therefore both true and good—until the next moment, on the next platform.

[...]

The internet tycoons used the ideology of flatness to hoover up the value from local businesses, national retailers, the whole newspaper industry, etc.—and no one seemed to care. This heist—by which a small group of people, using the wiring of flatness, could transfer to themselves enormous assets without any political, legal or social pushback—enabled progressive activists and their oligarchic funders to pull off a heist of their own, using the same wiring. They seized on the fact that the entire world was already adapting to a life of practical flatness in order to push their ideology of political flatness—what they call social justice, but which has historically meant the transfer of enormous amounts of power and wealth to a select few.

[...]

This disconnect between culturally mandated politics and the actual demonstrated preferences of most Americans has created an enormous reserve of unmet needs—and a generational opportunity. Build new things! Create great art! Understand and accept that sensory information is the brain’s food, and that Silicon Valley is systematically starving us of it. Avoid going entirely tree-blind. Make a friend and don’t talk politics with them. Do things that generate love and attention from three people you actually know instead of hundreds you don’t. Abandon the blighted Ivy League, please, I beg of you. Start a publishing house that puts out books that anger, surprise and delight people and which make them want to read. Be brave enough to make film and TV that appeals to actual audiences and not 14 people on Twitter. Establish a newspaper, one people can see themselves in and hold in their hands. Go back to a house of worship—every week. Give up on our current institutions; they already gave up on us.

"Mark my words" is the most pretentious comic book villain-level threat ever. Cringe-ass motherfucker. Whoever says that in earnest gets a KFC drumstick up their booty hole.

And why the hell is almost every female reporter on FOX a lanky blonde

wtf.  that was such ordinary pre-meeting chit-chat.  Of course they bitch about their clients like everyone else.  Resign for it?  Dumb.
