he was my dad's favorite actor after purple noon, but i remember he had recently come out as supporting certain "extreme far right causes" and had some equally questionable opinions

When we were teenagers one of our mates couldn't remember James Earl Jones' name and described him as the black guy from all the films (not insulting him, pure respect for his legend) it took us a few guesses to get to JEJ

RIP to the black guy that used to be in all the films

Sam Jackson and Densel Washington gonna have to duke it out to take up the mantle

he was an EGOT winner. immortalized to generations with his voice work but a total legend regardless.

I totally forgot he had a small role in Kubrick’s Dr. Strangelove. He was one of the co pilots flying with Slim Pickens in the bomber.

Great actress, she's been in so many good films.

She did a great turn as Charlotte Bartlett in A Room With A View, one of my most watched films.

R.I.P.

one of the good ones.. as a kid i remember watching him  in the cult classic "Convoy" movie.. but he's been around forever and wrote some country music that's actually good and "americana" type vibe. he also called out the assholes in country music whenever he felt like it.

Kris Kristofferson yelling at Toby Keith for being a republican pos is one of my favorite country music stories. “You know what Waylon Jennings said about guys like him? ---They’re doin’ to country music what pantyhose did to finger-fuckin’.”

sheesh.. Pete Rose, MLB legend w/a complicated legacy dead at 83

https://www.cnn.com/2024/09/30/sport/pete-rose-death-mlb-spt/index.html

once watched him pick his nose and wipe on his jersey. that's typical for ball players especially back in the day and is of course not why his legacy is complicated.  he bet on games which got him on everyone's shitlist for a long time. but he was legit one of the greats.

He was definitely a very skilled player, but he was also a total asshole (e.g., he badly hurt a fellow player by going too hard during a freaking all-star game).

He was also given a chance to get out of his lifetime ban by simply admitting what he had done and apologizing, but he refused. After a short time, that MLB commissioner (who was actually Paul Giamatti's father) died and the next commish basically told Rose to fuck off and go pound sand.  Never really felt bad for him at all.

yeah.. i knew there was more to the story but hadn't kept up w/the lore for some time. does seem like the kind of guy to take an all star game too seriously or just see it as an opportunity to take a shot at someone he didn't like. he definitely made his bed. no wonder he got along with Marge Schott so well.

it's crazy to see all he did on the field overshadowed by being an asshole.  the thing i remember most about him is that time i watched him pick his nose and wipe it on his jersey.
