"the drop"

i've been watching a lot of youtube dj's and i am kind of getting the sense of the edm music style

the drop

it's so over rated, these dj's are making drops every 30 seconds , maybe more. makes the music less exciting to me. it's like having tons of little orgasms, or something like that.

feel free to talk about drops or edm.

thanks

I guess it's intended to generate a brief sensation of suspense amongst the audience. Might have a more pronounced effect on the heavily inebriated.

To keep it real and analog, I'm gonna start posting to WATMM by writing my posts in fountain pen on hemp paper, putting them in bottles, and throwing them into the ocean.

I think it's like a chorus or guitar solo, some expected bombastic event that the rest of the music leads up to. For decades that was lacking in electronic music, with all the repetitive dub, disco, hip hop, etc. influence. The pop/rock kids needed something like that to latch onto and enterprising producers delivered.

It probably started with those stupid progressive trance snare rushes, honestly.

Hip hop though, it had its own "brief sensation" focus to the max, where it took the most grooving part of sometimes widely familiar composition and packed it even tighter. Same with certain house music (filtered disco and funk - Harder, better, faster, stronger by Daft Punk has symbolic hook phrase and method of producing) and many others. So i think it's kinda "kids these days" moment to hate on drops as a phenomenon.

complete ADD-generation gimmick,,,,,, whatever happened to maintaining a groove? The need to take a shit in your ears every other minute is cos everyone's looking @ their phones,

better still, scratch over everything really badly or go full Rain Man & drop some reverse drops,,,,,,,

something i noticed recently is how a majority of wisp's tracks have 'drops' in them. i love wisp but he does it a lot. so. yeah.

drops are not inherently bad imo, they're alright when done right

An hour of non-stop drops. It's an amazing experience. Best drops include:

29:06

32:42

54:04

But all the drops are worthwhile, really.

yeah. i think the drop is expected kind a default phenomenon. 'kids these day' finds electronic boring if there isn't one. my sister told me something like, when i was listening to syro that 'the music is ok, but there isn't drop. there is have to be a drop'. i find this pretty funny. like how music can be non-boring, if you know what to expect and what you will have. in this case, it's the drop.

i remember listening lot of hard rock way back in the day. i was like my sister, i was waiting something, a guitar solo in every song. and when there wasn't one, the song lose something in me. it wasn't so great.

why the hell should one expecting something on music? music should give you new experiences.

Most EDM nowadays is nothing but masturbation for the simple minded... I know it isn't supposed to be intellectual, but I can't party to something that doesn't speak to me. All this music is pure euphoria, or at least what they understand under euphoria, and this makes it impossible for me to connect to it, it seems so unnatural.

Sean Ae yeah so many of these analogue forums are people 90% bragging ang 10% uploading tracks that go fdghfgdhfddhgasfgdsfdsahfdfhdsgfgds

This is also good.

Garrix kind of takes a different approach to his collection of drops. They're more euphoric than Guetta's. Lots of female vocals, which is always good. Two types of drops for different occasions. Like fine wine.

I used to hae a reasonably high tolerance for EDM but since my gym have started showing loads of EDM music videos where the Djs punch the air or jump when the tune drops its really started pissing me of... that is all :)

I expected these to be exaggerations.

Neither of them were and now I am sad.

Christ. Every drop in those videos is exactly the same too; a rising tone plays for 4/8 bars, then everything but the melody drops out for 1 bar at the end of that, and then... TRIPLE TIME! How do people not get bored of this?

May be, most of what's called EDM is very trance-like anyway, but the term 'drop' itself used to be more of a drum and bass thing.
