Oh yeah, I get what you mean. I haven't been doing music long, but I have many VSTs from the early 00s and late 90s as you say, and while limited, what they do is generally sonically fresh and niche in comparison to the plugs I use today. I also agree about them trying too hard to bring you everything in one package. The issue with that is that it eats up CPU hard, and I'll end up using only the main portion of the VST, say it's a ring modulator. But in addition to that it has a delay, granular pitcher, and 4 filters built in. There's really no reason to have any of that except the ring mod!
