Yeah I saw this in record shops today.

Seems a bit lame to be charging money for it. Would be more suited as a FACT mix or something.

The vinyl was £25 and missing Pen Expers and a few other tracks (I assume due to licensing issues)

Even the little record shop blurb said it was poorly mixed, like that was a selling point lol.

IIRC the vinlys are unmixed no? I'm no record enthusiast so all this RSD wank is lost on me.

Agreed that the proliferation of all these promo podcast mixes nowadays (for fact, xlr8r, etc.) have diluted the art form quite a bit simply by the sheer volume of shit out there available for listening on the free. I'm old & crusty enough to remember when an artist getting asked to do a dj-kicks meant something but whatevs, still willing to pay for a well selected and executed mix esp. if its by an artist I like.

Anyway I just listened to this and quite liked it, all very actress-y and nothing feels forced - true it's not mixed in the conventional dj sense but there's nothing jarring or lazy in the transitions.

I thought many of the tracks were really short cuts for the overall mix but I still think it works regardless. Very Actress :)

Yeah it's a style to photograph the subject turned away from the camera (dunno how popular this was or still is), oftentimes it's mashed up with the more conventional headshot for the final product - think the Ken album cover. Plus he looks like a 15-y.o. cast extra from In Living Color -

Is your gripe that the vinyl is exorbitant or something with the mix itself? They're different beasts entirely, from what I gather the vinyl is an unmixed selection of 9 tracks from the set. pretty sure this is the way it's always been done for dj-kicks releases)
