Agreed. I voted Tsim 2.

Imagine being at an afx gig and he's blasting that out on a club sound system? It'd be glorious!

I've had this daydream a few times myself, I just replaced the club with a big field somewhere in the middle of nowhere.

Ha. I had pretty much the same fantasy with that track.

I'm boring, I know. I can not choose, I want them all. I will not vote but I will follow you and I'll cry alone in my corner with these 230 titles in mp3... :spiteful:

It is kind of easy to get influenced when you vote by looking at the obviously popular ones with the most votes. I can see myself changing my votes the more familiar I get with the tracks.

I feel like some of those high voted tracks are already a pretty decent quality... Some others sound great but could use a remastering.

don't push your favorites on others. that's gay. <3

i'm pushing my favorites on others and im gay, so you aren't wrong. :)

psychic i am.

Maybe the number of votes each track has should be hidden by default? Cos if you log in and see 28 organ with 225 votes you probably won't bother voting for it, but this poll is to find out the real fan favourites.

I kind of touched on this a few pages back:

- Also I feel like I should vote on some of the less popular ones that I like, I kind of feel sorry for them especially if they sound cute or really heartfelt. That kind of makes me omit some of the more bangin' ones too. -

I don't know if it's a good or a bad thing being able to see how many votes each track gets, it definitely influences people's decisions but it also gives entertainment and causes a bit of discussion and may prove useful when we have two versions of the same track that are popular etc.

Maybe we should do a poll on this ha!

^_^ I don't think that poll will be necessary, let's check with a poll.

Tbh avoiding tracks with lots of votes is just being biased. I think it'd be best to remove as much bias as possible. Then Richard will get our true opinions.

now you guys are discussing this... be keen for opinions!

i've been discussing this with rich, in terms of being able to see the results versus doing it blind.

having the votes public absolutely will be causing some bias, but having done some stuff in the past similar to this i strongly suspect that this bias will level out over a high enough level of voters. consider the three options people will take: most people are just going to vote for tracks they like regardless, with a smaller percentage voting either for the tracks displaying highest OR lesser loved tracks to give them more love. i believe it will even out, esp given people can come back and change their vote.

having this stuff public too makes the site a TON more interesting... and will encourage more discussion around it, which means more voters. i strongly suspect that having these votes public will actually lead to a 'top 20' which is way more representative of what the fans want.

on the other hand... there's definitely an argument in doing this blind, BUT it makes the site a ton more boring. right now I'm visiting it regularly to see the latest votes (and even adjusting my own votes as I remember killer tracks). i think people will forget about the poll quickly if there's no interesting information coming from it... which will probably lead to less accurate results.

also been throwing around the idea of 'starring' tracks or similar - like there's a secondary rating system for maybe 5 tracks you can use to mark your absolute favourites, and only rich can see that. so a mix of both worlds.

thoughts, guys?

I think given the spirit of the whole ongoing series of events thus far, openness and interactivity has been working out pretty well across the board. The secondary rating idea is cool - if nothing else, kind of a way to say "Hey Rich, I know these trax don't have a chance in hell but... dayum!"

No matter what you do, the "easy listening mode" will win the poll anyway so as I said, prepare for the next SAW album...

20 tracks is not enough to expect some diversity in selections, maybe two groups of tracks would do, the first one for casuals and the second for people who also love his experimental/hardcore stuff....

Agreed...

Also, let us not forget that this isn't an authoritative poll - Richard has veto powers, so winners might still lose. What if everyone got to vote for their top 40, knowing everyone else's top 40 will only have 20 winners max? Musical chairs style - more winners than trophies - maybe that would reduce incentive to vote with the majority. This would give Richard a richer dataset (pun intended) to work with, and he surely has some of his personal favorites in mind already. If some of his favorites are not in the top 20 and their votes are skewed extremely low, it would be hard to know which of those the fans really do like.

I really like the alternative voting idea. Favourite 20 tracks with top 1 to 5 in order, perhaps?

Also, massive kudos for all your work so far. A great effort and absolutely fantastic job. :)

regarding the mix of different music... agreed, but i wouldn't expect any different from a 'best of' style vote tbh.

encourage you guys to start putting together SC playlists that make up more coherent 'releases' of similar material. will be adding a feature soon that lets people import, share and vote on their SC playlists - at the absolute least having a community effort to organise the dump into virtual albums will make it WAY more great to listen to.

that's precisely what he said re final votes - "It will give me a good basis for compiling something, i wont compile it exactly as people have voted, just use it as strong start to compiling it myself "
