You can't really go wrong with Oneohtrix, save for some trax on Rifts and the Commissions EPs.

:cerious:

What's that supposed to mean?

Herr Cookie Monster and I are befuddled by the second half of your statement.

You mean to say that you actually enjoy the Commissions and you can't find a single bad track on Rifts? I envy you.

It's cool man; various strokes for various folks. I guess you're just the first person I've heard of that didn't like any of the commissioned works. And I could understand possibly not liking "I Know It's Taking Pictures From Another Plane (Inside Your Sun)" from Drawn And Quartered/Rifts, but I feel like everything else is so cohesive; I'd be curious to hear which tracks you aren't feeling.

The tracks that are just arpeggios repeated without any significant change. When I Get Back From New York is a perfect example. And I don't like Commissions because it's just a bunch of fucking around when what I really want is another full-length. OPN's been on a great streak with this "R" series of albums, and I want more.

oh cool i'm in the right place then

its kind of a tragedy that a thread asking for cutting edge/current IDM is half filled with posts about OPN

Well I think a genre sort of dies the instant it becomes identified as a genre. The original artists are still innovating, but nobody new.

IDM is pretty much done for imo, because it's hard to stay in the same realm of relation without doing something that has been done before.

If you wanna listen to idm, listen to the originals. If you want something new, look for it in a different genre.

Patterns, patterns, patterns... they are everywhere.

It is. Nevertheless there is a neoclassical meets idm meets metal trend currently that reminds me of warp 10-20 years ago. The quality is intense and denovali is leading this while expanding all over Europe

I forgot to mention Justin Walter. Not strictly IDM, but some form of techno-influenced ambient stuff. It's very nice.

thats absolutely not true, there are plenty of people making weird IDM music that are innovating, the problem is IDM has become sort of a black mark, people are ashamed of not just what the genre became (a bunch of Autechre and aphex clones) but also hate the acronym itself. like i said go check out the schematic label bandcamp page, they still put out interesting idm all the time by people who aren't part of the 'original' wave

I'm hardly a closed minded nun. Remember, I'm on a fucking IDM forum.... an IDM forum.. Think about that for a second before claiming people are closed minded nuns.

It's not new but looking at the Schematic bandcamp got me to finally check out Phoenicia`s Brownout.. Shame on me for not doing so before!

Maybe the problem is that the best IDM is, thought with a few exceptions, all mainly on Warp/Rephlex/Skam and all well known. There is no other holy grail to find.
