Personally I think everyones overreacting way too much. It felt like a 2 hour TV pilot with a longer than usual setup time, which would work great if we had an episode 3 coming. However I don't see how this was that much worse or different from any other superhero movie. Had there been an additional action scene somewhere in the middle or beginning, it would have felt more fleshed out and uniform. Everything from the beginning setup to where they first go into the other dimension and beyond all seemed pretty cookie cutter to me except too unbalanced in pace. I want a sequel with more action and less buildup to see the powers and such.

Half in the Bag is the best thing about blockbuster season.

I didn't even know they were making a new fantastic 4 film, or that it was out until yesterday when a co-worker was going on about being dragged to it and how terrible it was, needless to say I won't be watching this movie. It sounds pretty awful.

The last one was rubbish and I have no reason to believe this will be anything different.

Mad Max has won cinema this year.

I'd love a real Silver Surfer / Galactus movie but this almost kills it, unless Fox changes tactics. Guardians should show them people want more outer space, and they don't own that many cosmic heroes. Remember ROM the Spaceknight? He was awesome.

i cant find the video now but holy shit, i didn't realize just how much behind the scenes drama there was going on until after the Rotten Tomatoes rating came out.

So evidently Josh Trank (long before that tabloid story about destroying his rental house) went on 4chan and other forums to 'argue' with another insider from the production. He made absolutely no effort to hide or go stealth with a sock puppet, he was very unabashedly obviously posting as Josh Trank on these forums. A lot of fans/gawkers didn't pick up on the authenticity of these postings because they were done 'anonymously' but looking back on the actual things he posted, it is 100% him talking shit about his own movie and being extremely unprofessional. Anybody else who worked on the production and saw those postings would have known immediately it was him from the very beginning. (i think some people still don't realize how easy it is to 'figure out' who an anonymous poster reall is online) My guess is the studio found this behavior super unprofessional and possibly even sabotaged the entire film to ruin his career in hollywood forever. I know it sounds crazy but acting like Josh did in a professional movie studio system is a big industry no-no. Monique from Precious claims she was black balled for a lot less..because she didn't fulfill her unofficial 'obligation' to go on press junkets for Precious and she later explained that in the movie industry its just understood that you must do this to 'play the game' regardless of it you are paid or contractually obligated to do it. Just posting what he did on 4chan could get you blackballed, and thats exactly what i think happened. Maybe Simon Kinberg actually wanted to save the film, but at a certain point they had already diverged enough from the Cronenberg body horror premise Trank wanted that it was totally unsalvageable

Imagine what could be done with all the time and money spent making and watching all these vapid superhero movies.

I'm glad he's off Star Wars, imagine that disaster.

interestingly both Josh Trank and the guy who created the idea for Pixels both got plucked up by Hollywood based on independently made viral videos. Pixels is a perfect example of what happens when someone totally sells over/gives up their vision to a hollywood studio, Fantastic Four is what happens when someone tries to fight it. Both are fuckups, but with Fantastic Four parts of the movie had some creative DNA in it, although in the end it doesnt matter.

I'm really curious what Mark Millar is being paid for right now as 'consultant' for Fox's marvel universe. He claimed that the Fantastic Four movie was based on the Ultimate run originally. So far i've seen zero connective tissue between any of the new Fox/marvel movies. If Millar is being paid to do nothing thats awesome, but he seems like the type of guy who would spill the beans in the future if the studio was fucking him and other comic book people they hired to help guide this along

His face is at a slightly different angle, but besides slimming him up a bit and other slight pretty-fications, not too much crazy shit was done.

yeah i was gonna say, but i didn't want to piss on datas moment. his head is at a different angle, you can tell just by looking at the ears, his head is inclined down in the film poster, which is a postery thing to do to look cool or whatever. This makes his chin look smaller and narrower. They've also poffed his hair right up, which makes his head look longer. And he's aged, probably lost some baby chub. This isn't to say that they wouldn't have done this or that though, cause it's a movie poster, of course there's gonna be some image modification.
