Also as for not being able to say what you want, I think the problem is often how it is said rather than what is said. There's generally a way to phrase anything that doesn't immediately 'trigger' people and so on. I suspect, however that a lot of people like the idea of causing offence, and do it intentionally, with a knowing grin at the reaction their 'misunderstood' arguments cause.

Lucky people only talk shit on the internet and are too cowardly to do it in real life. I hear Bam Margera used to get his forum admin to point out the people on his forum who shit talked him should they come to his signings, so he could ask them in person why they were calling him a pussy and so on. Virtually all of them panicked and had nothing to say.

Dude, these are the same colleges that are teaching the kids this extreme PC language fascism, there are many hundreds of examples now of really strange previously counter intuitive out there stuff being imposed on the minds of these children. As a base example, not being allowed to call undocumented/illegal immigrants that anymore, even economic migrants is out they are just plain old migrants (you'll note that the media is following along with this as well). So what i was implying, in what i thought was an obvious way cause i didn't want to set up a boring debate, is that the reactions these comics are experiencing is symptomatic of a greater problem in the liberal youth of today, something which even old liberals like us would find an extreme anathema. Academia has been captured and the fruit that is bearing is scary wrong.

I'm not really addressing the article. I just think the talking point of "are we becoming too sensitive" is sort of a red herring. by "we", they basically just mean college students for starters. I think there are some good points raised, however in regards to the student anxiety i'm confident you'll find most students are stressed because they're realising they are going into a world that has been bought and sold and that full time work making other people rich isn't that satisfying.

This is more about student sensitivity than anxiety. Most of the students I went to university with (having recently finished university) actually realise that because of the good fortune they had to go to university, they are able to work much more with their own needs in mind.

Remember, these are the people who are going to go on and shape the world we live in. Do you really want to live in a world where we can't teach Huckleberry Finn, because it's accurate representations of oppression might trigger a minority? Or where law students pressure law professors not to teach rape law because it might trigger rape victims?

Well, let's hope you're right and that my pessimistic view that this is the thin end of the wedge is wrong.
