Anyway, the mermaid looks a little bit like Tony Cragg's sculptures. Not sure if intentional.

My only gripe with Banksy is he feels a bit like a self-parody these days. The Daily Mash have ripped on him a few times and they're pretty much always spot on.

it's funny how you're not allowed to be political anymore, somehow the corporations have programmed the youth into anti-rebelling, so they trigger every time they notice it and go into shun mode acting as gatekeepers and policemen for the corporations using the parlance of their particular groupthink. That's like being angry because people that like or have an opinion about space aren't astronauts. It's a nullifying stance that in and of itself presents nothing and means nothing. It should be pretty clear by now that you can have an opinion or knowledge associated with a subject and not have to be a furiously active participant in it. Take for example music, perhaps that's a more relevant example, so now people can't critique music because they don't make it, absurd. This argument is just an easy get out clause for those that themselves aren't thinking too hard about what they are pointlessly railing against, whilst taking the most painful participant in any activity as being representative of the whole. Refer to my 'there's arseholes everywhere liking everything' comment from the other Banksy thread for some levity on this thing. So you are free to like it or dislike it divorced of what you think about others doing the same or their motives, it's art.

Also, I realise that this is just a glorified art sale. But for what it is, which is a means to shift commodities to rich people, I think they took an interesting approach not deserving of anyone's churlish rebellion. It's just some capitalism, and if you rail against it, does that not then make you an 'activist'. Perhaps by the measure of the argument that I was rebutting should you not now go out and join an occupy 1%r protest in front of a bank somewhere, lest you be pilloried as an hypocrite by some user, in some thread, on some forum somewhere.
