I've been doing DIY buzz cuts, same length for the whole scalp, without exception since 2007. My hair was already thinning on top and starting to look a bit shit by then anyway. I don't miss having longer hair at all, works great with a helmet and the most styling it ever needs is sticking my head under the faucet for a few seconds.

Never cut my own hair I'm only 22 but it just got chopped off by my dad after having long hair for 10+ years and looks like shit but I like it.

cut my hair the other day, doesnt look to bad tbh, used the weird babyliss thing and a standard clipper using two mirrors on things at head height when sitting down
