soz for lack of clarity. i meant that i think making a weak, crippled $5-600 analog poly is lame when tons of better alternatives (either va or vintage) exist in that price range, and that a serviced vintage synth will last way longer than a cheap chinese manufacture. i think resources would be better spent making something actually new rather than making something totally shitty that ppl will buy b/c it's analog.

prob should have been a general post rather than a reply to yr last post.

They coulda actually made the JX-3P w/programmer in a dumb box that you have to hook up a midi-keyboard to for under 800 IMO. DCO's (maybe add a sub osc and get all juno), analog filter, digital envelope, cool lil' chorus, and bam! Just add real midi, less resonance shittyness on the filter, a better LFO with more waveforms and greater range of variable speed and some green led's to blind you with as you play.

they couldn't actually make that for that cheap, unfortunately. the closest current synths (in terms of features/components) are the prophet 08 rack, which is $1500, and the futuresonus parva which is $1k - and the latter is only so cheap b/c the designer builds them himself and sells direct. (MI retailers can take up to 50% of total sale price)

roland is trying to get over $2k for the jd-xa which is a 4-voice dco with some digital features from their previous rompler tacked on.

they would prob need to sell the jx module you described for $1500-2k to make their profit margins, but maybe someone could diy it for closer to $1k.

That's not terrible.

Some songs I made with my fingers and electronics. In the process of making some more. Hopefully.

Yeah

I was gonna say it sounds like classic Roland

Although definitely not sounds I associate with Juno's

(Although maybe that's just because it's a step sequence)

But anyway I love Roland

And this sounds Roland-y

So I like it

Although admittedly I'm easy to please and I like anything that isn't terrible

lol, only one sound eh?

I'll wait on that one. I've made some incredibly convincing 'analog' sounding things on a korg electribe, and lets be honest, that thing while fun, kinda sucks if it wasn't for the groovebox/sequencer/drum machine thing it has going for it.

Yes, honestly it looks like the least interesting of the bunch, but it sounds much better than expected, to my ears it sounds better than the other two. Aaaand I still miss my old Juno 106 that I sold for next to nothing 16 years ago. It was my first synth damnit, never should've let it go.

I'm impressed

Will be buying jupe if I can

(Already have JX-8p, sh-101 and access to a friend's Juno-60 and JX-3p)

Always wanted a jupe-4

This will definitely do

Oh Roland, you my favorite

Why would you sell your Jupe?!?

Don't do it, my friend!!!

(How much you want for it?)

Not sure yet. It's one I have always wanted myself but have yet to find a place for it in my music. the 4 polyphony is a tad annoying as I naturally go for 5 fingers when playing.

It's a beautiful thing obviously but I have lots of other options and this is kinda sat there taking up space. Studio is far too cramped as it is.

Childcare costs are killing us at the minute too.

The comparisons in that video are pretty decent, though the JX03 in particular seems a lot brighter and lacks some of the bottom end of the original.

What was a great idea about the system-1 was the 'global tone' knob

Which adjusted the overall brightness/darkness (obv)

But that's why the 101 emu is so close

These should've had that knob

But oh well

I wonder what the chances are of Roland adding some sort of emulation of the Boutique line to the System-1 as an aftermarket purchase.

I would guess that eventually they'll have all the classic analogs

They already have the sh101, the sh2 (? I forget which one)

And then that weird poly I'd never heard of before

But I'd imagine they realize there's a demand for all the classics bundled together

The boutiques will sell out and then they'll do more stuff in the same vein

They don't sound as I expected. Having owned a JX-3P, that thing doesn't sound much like it, but really cool that it adds more to boost the JX-3P's limitations.

Not bad Roland... Not bad...

Watching people use mini-sliders is a little funny tho. They look like they'd be a hassle to dial in for a man with big hands. Oh wells.

If they're smooth you could probably tweak a couple of sliders at once with each hand, which is kind of cool.

it wouldn't surprise me if this was originally intended as a "system 2" where you could have all 3 of these in 1 keyboard w a generic set of controls, and then after seeing reface they broke it out into separate modules to cash in further on retro/collectorism.

i don't think they'd add it into the system 1, they make more money selling them as separate hardware items. also might be hard to map the system 1 controls to these.

might be interesting if they made a bigger keyboard with all of these and all the system 1 emulations all available w better polyphony.

paraphonic and polyphonic are not mutually exclusive terms. they apply to different things. many polyphonic synths are paraphonic (all osc going thru the same filter and amp). individual filters and envelopes for each oscillator is less common and more expensive.

look it up...
