unacceptable. tbh if you are interested in Prurient but not an older japanese musician like Painjerk there is a big fundamental problem at play here combined with the fact that you needed to make a thread (which lets face it is incredibly inappropriate) asking what equipment was needed to make 'noise' a genre rooted in pure primal experimentation. I don't like this thread, it should have never existed in the first place, but it is an interesting demonstration of... something

With all due respect—I get your point—but especially in the noise genre, I think it's a bit elitist to imply that someone needs to study/enjoy artists from the entire history of noise music in order to create it/appreciate the new stuff.

Noise is not fun it's about pain and agony and smashing things. Edited by th555

thx alllot for the fast responses but damm jev either youre stupid or trolling ....

What? Why?

some people actually play instruments and don't have a desire to "produce" ...

i am very pro software, and tbh i'm pretty good at ableton, but there really is something about eliminating as much as possible of the visual interaction of making music.

the screen is a problem in performance (and we aren't talking about autechre. the people here who are playing live are often playing to cold audiences, not to a mob of idm dads with precum seeping through their pants)

it's a problem because it's the terminus of auditory information. now, i play live with a laptop and push, but i play with a friend who uses all hardware, and seeing how immediate that setup is made me invest in hardware also.

hope i'm making you proud ches

But you don't need "gear" to make noise. It's noise. The only things you really need are a microphone and an audio recorder. The rest is just playing around with anything you can think of. It seems that you just don't like that concept, so you're getting angry at people for giving honest answers, so the only sad thing here is your reaction.

of course it's elitist

where did i say he needs to understand the history of noise music again? I just find it really highly irritating fly-by-night noise fans a) want a list of equipment of how to make it and b) can practically only name drop Prurient and like 4 other bands Pitchfork talks about. It hurts me in my heart pretty hard tbh and it also fucking sucks.

this is where i draw the line

i think people truly into noise - even as complete noobs - will eventually find another underground forum or local scene or some other online community and not give a shit about p4k

hell ive even seen it with kids on cassette and vaporwave subreddits - clueless kids sincerely appreciate people pointing them to bands like negativeland or some overlooked 80s synth new age albums they've never heard of

p4k and other tastemaker fans, these fly by night folks - yeah they suck but they exist as an annoying and frustrating component of EVERY genre: with metal it's the folks who only know deafheaven, with dream pop it's the beach house fans, the people who only know tycho and other "safe" electronic producers....

...it's best to just ignore them. i still get irked on occasion but ultimately i tell myself its futile to try to change anything by posting a comment about it or stirring shit up on reddit or youtube or stereogum comments, etc. people who branch out will do so themselves, the rest are hopeless

"i know there are a lot of threads in the internet but i want to ask the experts of watmm ;)"

so i would like to make noise, power electronics, ambient kind of music but with "real" gear ,i can create this kind of sounds very easy in DAW but i dont think its the real deal.

I´m thinking of contemporary noise artists like wolf eyes, prurient, pharmakon, and so on...

whats the cheapest way to start ? i always see casette players, a mixer, pedals, microphone....

I'd say browse the interviews and featured artists at tabsout.com - or check out their podcast artists - ive heard more innovative and inventive noise there than anywhere else and it's not hyped boomkat or p4k stuff

it's a cassette podcast but they are all noise musicians and fans primarily and if you email them they'd likely respond to questions about recommended hardware equipment, circuit bending shit, etc. Hell their podcast is currently being sponsered by a dude who makes custom pedals.

i feel like enjoying noise music is very similar to being cucked

What part of the noised up signal makes you feel that in particular? More the upper band or the lower?
