Push 2 and Live 9.5 (EDIT: Out now !)

Recommended Posts

Don't think so - operational wise the only real 'changes' are build improvements: It's apparently much better to play the pads, the lights now have a better colour response, the button layout has changed a bit, and the addition of the improved hi-def colour screen which allows you to see extra stuff on the selected device

In terms of being a controller for external gear think it'd be pretty much exactly the same.

I haven't eaten a Wagon Wheel since 07/11/07... ilovecubus.co.uk - 25ml of mp3 taken twice daily.

Sounds like you're trying to upgrade to something 'above' Ableton Suite (of which there is no such thing!). Log in to your account on the Ableton site and under the account page you should find a drop down menu selecting your OS of the version of Ableton 9.5 you want to download

So how do you upgrade to 9.5? It's saying "suite 9 can't be upgraded any further" but i'm still on 9.2.3

same way you upgraded to 9.2.3 it's in your account already. free update.

ye got it now, literally bought ableton a couple weeks ago so not familiar with how the updates work. Cheers

So is this a good time to buy ableton or should i wait another year or so when Ableton 10 comes out? How do upgrades usually work pricing wise? Another couple hundred dollars to upgrade to 10?

I can get the student discount for another couple years

It's hard to say when 10 will be released; given they made a thing of 9.5/Push 2 coming out now, it'll be at least a year before 10 is likely. But at any point after that we could see an upgrade. Wikipedia says Live 9 came out in March of 2013 and Live 8 was in 2009. So, approximately 4 years between the most recent full versions, even with a bit of a curveball in this Live 9.5/Push 2 thing, I'd guess we're looking to at least 2017 before Live 10 is released. By then they may try something totally different with the Push or Live software; a subscription service could be in the cards for Live (unlikely, but I'm just thinking out loud), or a more integrated version of Push with a soundcard or audio adapters (these were rumored before Push 2) or who knows what along with...Ableton seem to be pretty ahead of a curve, and if they stay that way it's hard to predict what's ahead.

I would say you'd be safe buying Live now though; they sometimes run a sale in Spring, but that may not be able to be combined with your education discount.

yes. i haven't found 'spread' but i haven't looked yet

Housed in the 'controls' section under the pitch envelope incase you've missed it.

just wondering if i should consider using the PUSH

i don't use vst instruments , i record audio into my clips.

i'd be using the push to play clips, i'd also use it to record drums.

and add effects i guess i don't know if it can do that

or should i just buy an apc 40 ?

Not sure how Push 2 deals with audio inside clips. Push 1 is a bit limited with that. Don't know if/how they've updated that.

You can add effects with Push very easily. I also find the drum sequencer on the Push very nice. Love the way I can do step automation, very easy to add and paste cells within the drum rack. If you use drum rack a lot, I would recommend Push for sure.

Well fuck you, I'd been happy with the changes to Push 1, but having seen that I'm now seeing how great Push 2 is and I want one damnit!

Most 'impressive' thing was the realtime display as it was recording, that was very nice, and how easy it was to convert it. I always thought it was great how little you needed to touch the laptop with the Push but that seems to take it to another level.

So tonight I went to an ableton meet in Berlin which had the developers from Ableton Link doing a demonstration and chatting a bit about it all, plus one of (if not THE guy from) Audio Bus, and some other guys who've developed apps based off this technology. It genuinely looks awesome, the sync is fucking incredibly tight, I can see how this opens up a whole new world, they really wanted to impress that this was a technology rather than trying to get everyone onto ableton gear. I can totally see how this works in real world, live environment, for jamming, creating a doing live work. Would totally recommend everyone trying to get on board with this if you need to sync anything digital, and it seems to integrate with analogue gear well too. Seems like the days of master and slave could be over

yeah so i got bit by the whole hardware bug bad the last couple of years but it's all such a pain to get connected and talking to each other that getting back into the box looks much more appealing. i was always way more productive when i was just using a daw+one midi controller.

could easily sell my gear and get an upgraded pc+ableton & push and still have money left over.

would be converting as a decade old fl user though. mainly wondering how well ableton handles vsts? the ease of drum editing and vst compatibility has always been one of my fav things about fl. but the native implementation of push w/ableton is really sexy

any fl->ableton converts? is it a hard jump to make?

Good to see they haven't abandoned the original push.

Some songs I made with my fingers and electronics. In the process of making some more. Hopefully.

ableton uber n00bl4r here but is there any way for me to add multiple vst directories? most of mine are in the same place but when i installed the new version of overbridge it was in a dumb directory so i added it and then all my other plugins dissapeared =\

Not natively, but there's a funky third party workaround - http://www.familiekraft.de/PluginManager/

I'd personally recommend just moving them to the same place though - Are you on PC ? If so see if you can just copy the .dll from the 'dumb' Overbridge VST directory to the regular one. Sometimes it'll work just dragging and dropping like that as either the plugin itself is a self contained file or just points to a main application stored somewhere in your program files directory anyway.

what a dumb fucking thing tho, right?

what were they expecting? me to be organized?

thx for confirming. i'll have a look at the workaround (but more than likely just organize my vsts)

I think you can add a shortcut to your other vst directory in your main vst directory and cheese it that way.

Some songs I made with my fingers and electronics. In the process of making some more. Hopefully.
