So fucking good.. is it too early to call this as contender for AOTY?

Been rinsing it, as they say, since it dropped. With some of his more recent stuff there were bright spots and songs I didn't really care much for, the Thank You album being a prime example of awesome mixed with meh. There's not a song on here that I find myself skipping over. Dreamt Person v3 is great opener, shit's robust and formidable sounding. Everything About You is Special, Magnificent Stumble, Can't Vote For Yourself, Goose and Gary, Health Card10 and my current favorite Slightly Bent Fork Tong = Bangers. The only song that doesn't really do much for me is the closer. I enjoy everything else.

Don't want to overhype shit, it's not a paradigm-shifting album or anything, but if more artists can make as concerted an effort, and piece together an album as consistently good on a track-to-track basis as this album we're going to be in for an awesome year of music. Not calling it AOTY, but I'm fairly certain it will be up there on the year-end list. As it currently stands, however, this is the best thing I've heard this year.

Agreed on the Last Step comment, although it sounds much more aggressive and abrasive than anything he'd release under that moniker. All in all: really digging the album (and the extra tracks) and I'm glad that he stepped away from the Bulldozerstyle. Although he has done that on Your Face as well.

Big ups Aaron

i've never been able to get into the super peripatetic stuff so that it's a little more like last step is a very good thing for me. this is a great album yos!

Guest Chesney

bought this at the weekend and first listen I was a bit underwhelmed. I'm not sure what I was expecting but it had no colour and all standard sounds. Well, it does say it on the tin.

However, I listened to it last night in a better situ/stereo etc and the melody's and ideas started to pop out and it turned into a really cool, album. Nothing groundbreaking soundwise but it does not have to be if the ideas are good.

I think a few more listens and i'm really going to be into this. one of my kids was breakdancing to it before he went to bed too, so he seemed to into it.

am i a bad person I wanted to sample john stossel GIVE ME A BREAK

Haven't paid much attention to Aaron's output since Filth, except for the Last Step stuff which I really liked. I've only heard a few songs from Traditional Synthesizer Music so far (while shuffling my queue) and I'm liking the vibes.

glad others found the last track disappointing. Kind of felt like to me 'ok if I just make the biggest buildup of any song ever the rest will just write itself' which it does for the first 15-30 seconds after but then kind of peters out

You and Shayna is kinda like swindon pt 2 in a good way when you think about it?? slightly bent fork tong is great too but is the alt version a little longer I hope? I had high hopes for Health Card10, it mostly works but I kinda wish it had one or two extra elements going on like an extra chord progression or something

is shayna a real person or another one of funk's cats

slightly bent fork tong track sounds intentionally similar to produk 29 off syro, in the bass-line I mean. Figured it was a dig. (Both are track 3, have a similar bassline, and "slightly bent fork tong" seems appropriately to reference produk... no?)

In fact I thought even the album name was a dig. It's a pretty boring title lol.

10/10 album for me, was absolutely great. Track 10 was the highlight for me.

A dig? If it is it's of the passive-aggresive, suburban housewife variety and only serves to reinforce the whole polite Canadian stereotype. I seriously doubt he was taking shots.

Well, maybe you have a point. Plus all the songs have v1,v2 type descriptors to identify which version of the track was recorded which is somewhat similar I suppose to Richard's recent [1nomenclature usage]. I figured it was just someone trying to emulate the god again. Look no further than soundcloud to see how many people have changed the way they title their tracks since Richard's return (granted the majority of them are impostors with high hopes of being mistaken for Richard, if even just momentarily).

Then again, they used a golden ticket as a promo tool for that contest, and we damn well know Aphex Twin is the WIlly Wonka of music.

See what you did ? You got me halfway believing in this bullshit now. But seriously, if you just copied a bunch of stuff from an influential artist and tried to pass it off as some "ironic" form of mockery then you're just an incredibly wack and unoriginal human being and you should be ashamed of yourself.

I got the impression there was a bit of a pisstake there.

Then again I was blasted on mushrooms while listening so probably hearing stuff that wasn't there lol.

I thought aphex but the soundcloud tracks. I know there's Fork Rave, maybe a tong track, possibly another fork one

probably a reference to a tuning fork anyway

Grows with every listen, love this. Need to give the alt versions CD more of a listen though, there are some lovely tracks on there. Super hyped for his live set!
