i wish boc would be considered pop, and that they had regular rotation on radio, along with sp, afx and vibert and a shitload of other musicians that deserve it a lot more than the current pop trend

but then what type of music would we listen to?

I was flicking through the channels and heard one of the TCH LP tracks playing on the Fashion TV channel while some supermodels flounced around on the catwalk. I thought it was quite funny.

i'm not complaining or anything, it's just weird.

i don't really know how well they'll do though, it seems like the only song that's really doing anything is dayvan cowboy. and they haven't really made many more songs like that. so i dunno. i hope this doesn't push them back in that direction.

I'll buck the trend and say I don't want BoC to become more visible than they already are. I'm sure BoC are millionaires and aren't hurting for money. It seems like they may be too focused on being popular these days.

I had to wonder why they chose Davyan Cowboy, the most commercial-sounding track from TCH, for the single. It occurred to me that BoC must be very proud of that track, and think it should be their commercial breakthough hit, and that's why they drew attention to it by releasing it on a single as well.

Maybe it was pressure from WARP, but WARP never seemed to pressure them before...

In any case, I don't want BoC to be obscure and penniless, but I don't want them to get more visible than they are now. Wear a BoC t-shirt around like my friend does, and you'll see how many people recognize it. At least in the San Francisco Bay Area they have a lot of visibility.

After this I listened to geogaddi and I didn't like it, I was quite vomitting at some tracks, I realized they were too crazy for my ears, they took too much acid to play music I stupidly thought (cliché of psyché music) But I knew this album was a kind of big forest where I just wasn't able to go inside.

I was in US tjis summer, and eat in KFC. FUCK That's the worst thing i've ever eaten. The flesh simply doesn't cleave to the bones. Battery ferming. And then, foie gras is banned from NY state, because it's considered as ill-treat. IT'S NOT. KFC is tourist ill-treat. YOU POISONERS! Two hours after being to KFC, i stopped in a amsih little town barf all that KFC shit out. Nice work!

So i hope this woman is not like kfc chicken, otherwise she'll be pulled to pieces.

i actually saw this advert as well but i thought it was a chevy commercial and dayvan cowboy had replaced "like a rock" or something. i was actually screaming "no you motherfuckers" at my tv and then realized it was just an mtv ad, which is a bit better. i'd love it if they made money off their music but i'm sure they already do and i honestly don't want them to be really famous.

hahah, joker

also, dayvan cowboy is fucking vile and so are most of the (longer) tracks on TCH.. boring elevator-muzak..

I'm not joking. I bet BoC have around a million bucks in the bank at this point. If they make $3 per CD, that means they'd have to have sold 300,000 of their CDs worldwide. You don't think that's possible?

its possible, but it depends on the kind of deal they have with their lable(s), i know for a fact that labels dont give any royalties to an artist untill they recoup(sp?) the money they invested to said artist, and now a days with p2p a lot of ppl rather download an album from free than buy it.

This is true, but I don't think Warp pays anything for BoC to make their music. If you read that recent interview, Marcus says something like "there were fake leaks before we even sent our album to the label." I think they record and produce their tracks in their home studio(s), so there's no cost to Warp. And I was taking p2p into account when I asked how many units they've actually sold.

It's sort of silly to argue about, but it wouldn't surprise me if they are millionaires, seeing that they are one of the three or four superstars in electronic music, and there are only two of them to split the money between. Hopefully Mike and Marcus will post in this thread to clear things up, as they usually do...

lol, i dunno man, BoC aren't millionaires ... they've not possibly sold 300,000 albums, or anything remotely approaching this. i distinctly remember an interview where they said something like "one of the biggest misconceptions is that we're making a lot of money from our music." to be a 'superstar' in electronic music means that you make just enough money from touring/sales to ensure that you don't need a day job; the one possible exception to this would be aphex, but then he's had top 40 hits and a trillion releases and he's popular among non-electronic music people

Maybe...But, back in the mid nineties, a modestly selling video game would sell 500,000 copies. Unrelated, I know, but I'm usually surprised by the number of units sold of even "unsuccessful" things...BoC now have three albums and several singles...Not to mention their music was used in at least two advertisements...I think they have crossover appeal as well, like Aphex (though they don't market themselves as cleverly and ruthlessly as he).

On a side note, I don't think they could sell out successfully even if they wanted to. Their musical vision is just too quirky.

Yeah, I wonder about that too, does BoC have day jobs? Sure they are big in the genre, but let's face it, we're a far way from mainstream. They don't tour. They've only put out a handful of albums over a 10 year period, and there are two of them (at least one of which now has a family to maintain). So do the album sales pay all the bills?

i seriously doubt this.

there's a big difference between pumping out 4 or 5 number one albums with the associated pile of top 10 singles, and electronic music. A BIG difference.

never the twain shall meet.

yes - they are probably comfortable, nae filthy loaded. But I suspect Warp will have pocketed more out of 'the boc years' than the brothers. It's an indictment of a requirement for money (for both Warp and themselves) that they have gone all pop poopy and are even desperate enough to release a track twice on two different releases in the space of barely 9 months, coupled with the shittiest MTV sellout video you'll ever see from a left of field electronic act.
