Ha, funny to run into the name “Electric Fetus” again; I was just checking out that store because apparently they are one of the few places carrying the new Prince album on CD.

Yeah Extreme Noise is probably my favorite, mostly for the impact its had on the local music scene. Plus you gotta love the whole punk DIY attitude too.

Theres another small one in Uptown too, Treehouse records. They have a pretty solid selection though, managed to pick up a few Analords there a while back.

olde favourite Nottingham haunts have all closed:

Arcade Records, Rubberneck, Selectadisc (how the city could let this institution close etc etc) & Funky Monkey....

rinsed many a wage packet in these fine establishments

Fergus @ Selectadick was the living wannabe knowitall cunt who would try n lecture all & sundry on whatever his degenerate mind could cook up while playing the worst happy hardcore *insertbullshitgenre here. Try listening to Larry Heard 12"s with one ear-piece while that racket crashed through the shop monitor speakers. Twat cost them many a customer

oh well, digitization pretty much killed em all

ps: think the Earache label is still based in Notts, talk about opposites for such a House-heritage centric city

There were some really good ones in Newcastle, though I haven't been there since '07. I copped all of my Talking Heads LPs at Steel Wheels (I think).

I've gone past Treehouse many times but never really gone in there, I should check it out.

Waterloo Records - Austin

End of An Ear. I would go there if you had to pick one of the two. More varied stuff, a lot more underground/experimental weirdness to browse, and it's a quieter and more Austin-y part of town. Very DIY/local friendly. Nice people too even if they seem a little stiff, except the owner he's always around and ready to help you find something. Lot of great restaurants around and it's more in a neighborhood that feels like Austin before it's boom.

Waterloo is older and little bigger but also more tourist-y and catering to people with a lot of money who still like to buy new Bonnie Raitt on CD IRL and yuppies buying vinyl to frame in their condo. End of Ear feels more like a place you'd run into a watmmer. They also sell old vintage stereos too which are cool to look at.

Forever Young Records in Grand Prairie, Texas, and of course the legendary Bill's Records in Dallas.

Really great shops, they have everything you can think of. Especially Bill's.

I like both Austin stores, but Ear is way more thrift storish and does have the superior used collection of titles, but Waterloo's electronic vinyl section is better IMO.

Oh good, I'm glad to hear about their vinyl section. I hadn't browsed that section in awhile. I remember when I first moved here it was the go to place for 12" electronic releases, guess it still it. There's a couple other places that sell electronic vinyl like Exploded Records but it's a small place.

Before it closed Cheapo was a surprisingly good place to find electronic vinyl. I found two Arovane records and Plaid-double figure, all in good condition and like $5 each.

I would also routinely come across multiple Venetian Snares records but I never bothered to pick them up. Shame that place went under.

Yeah it is, I can't imagine it managing to stay open anywhere in Austin now hypothetically, property taxes / leases are just too much. It's a goodwill now, surprised it wasn't a more high-end place but IIRC Goodwill is like legally a non-profit so they don't have to pay property taxes.

Any good stores in Washington DC I should check out?

Have only really been to Red Onion and Joe's Record Paradise; both were decent. Joe's had a lot of vinyl, so could always find something, but it's up in Silver Spring so not too convenient if you're downtown. Red Onion is close to some good bars and eats! Just visiting DC?

The Music Exchange recently announced they are closing now too... :\

Wonder if their new neighbours down broad street played a part in it...

The old Bop Street Records in Seattle was amazing...they moved a few years ago and had to downsize unfortunately...still massive.
