This is one of those albums that only took a couple of listens to feel like I've known it all my life and have some kind of deep understanding of it. Somewhat random observation: a lot of Four Tet's work gives me the same feeling, and I think they might share a common thread of making deceptively simple, highly effective music. As opposed to music where you keep finding and focusing on new elements with each listen but maybe never really "grok" it.

Great description.

AOTY for me at this point, kind of like a 2016 R.I.P (which was my AOTY 2012 so makes sense)

THATS HOW U NO U GOD WHEN YOU GOTA MODEL AND SHE THROW UP ON YO DICK BECAUSE ITS SO BIG AND YOUR IN A LIMO GOING TO A LIL B CONCERT - Lil B

this guy's works are so weird for me. they have some of the elements that i enjoy, in general and in several specific ways it's the kind of shit i would dig (i even think his name is cool) and i have no real criticism of anything ive heard....but for some reason it just doesn't click for me ?

usually i hear it and am intrigued and like it but then after a couple listens i'm over it. Bummer!

anyway, good to seem him plugging along and respect to the little watmm crew who dig him

loving this album. like a lot of HSs work and this is no exception. very dreamy and easy to sink into.

only wish some of the tracks didnt have the abrupt endings. it seems contradictory to the overall dreamlike vibe of the music. but.. what can you do? still listen to and enjoy the album alot. listening to it a lot recently in the midst of me reading LOTR and putting on appropiate ambient musics :^)

further proof that d-lo and i are the watmm equivalent of the two girls dancing emoji

imo, For Those of You isn't quite on the level of his first album. Ive been listening back to Colonial Patterns this week and it really is vast, cohesive, and crazy good for a debut album. Prinzif still leaves me gobsmacked.

But I appreciate that rather than try to one-up on similar themes, this new album is more of a sidestep. I also cant remember the last time I was excited by a new ambient release (discounting stuff like opn and loveliescrushing- er, tim hecker from that categorization) so big ups to that

fair. i enjoyed the first album but never quite loved it thru n thru. this new one is hitting the spot in a way the first one never quite did for me :D

insta-vibes.

still also loving the EPs. A Verdigris Reader EP is one where i love it from start to finish and reckon has the potensial to be a favourite release of his. just .. so good.

Railroad Blues was really really good too. I like it better than this release at the moment.

edit: this doesn't usually happen with me on albums but right now it's just a couple of tracks get on my nerves on 'for those of you who have never'. this is weird bc i usually enjoy listening to a whole album through.

to not edit is almost like to not compose

just out of curiosity, which tracks are rubbing you the wrong way?

also while we're on the eps, the royal crown reissue is the business. Easily my favorite of his 'recent' eps, he's riding the basic channel wave to new territories here

I'm pretty indifferent to this release, though this thread has lead to my checking out the Vedigris and RCoS EPs which are both top choice choonage so  guys

Just read the Norman review of this and am intrigued, also this thread has me wanting to listen. Also judging by this thread it's been out for while, why is it in the Norman new releases email?

He played live last night (at a church!) in brooklyn. Seemed to be hardware/synth based, lots of intense sculpting of sounds. The mood was a bit darker than this album, with some percussive sounds within the continous ambient trip. It was all new stuff as far as i could tell.

Did anyone see him at sustain release last weekend?

Personally I started listening to this dude around the same time as discovering Vlatislav Delay (Multilia)  and that is now a massive influence on me..probably my favourite record right now.

not sure you're allowed to speak about this album and multila in the same sentence
